Default cleaning question

what is a good material that can be used to scrub off the tough brake dust on the factory rims without scratching them? A brush or brillo pad? What kind of scrub brush will be tough enough get off tough brake dust but without scratching the rim?
Kind of a dumb question, but need to know because the dirt is building up on the front wheels. Whenever I clean the car I get everything else clean and then the tires are left dirty and continue to build up additional dust/dirt. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. PM me with info - thanks

Toothpaste and toothbrush. A rag may scratch with the toothpaste, but the brush won't.
