If you use a heat gun, you can remove the clear bra without damage to the paint. If you do a search, you will fing guys that have had them removed without a heat gun, and it peeled the paint off.

I have the 3M kit from InvincaShield, and it's been on my car for 4 years now. No yellowing or peeling edges. I've had some pretty big rocks kick up that have put little gouges in the clear bra, but the paint below is unaffected.

IMO, if you want a high mileage car that looks nice, you either have to repaint it or spend the money up front and get a clear bra. Let's face it - the car's value is greater if it's never been repainted, and a repainted bumper isn't as durable as the original paint job (at least not from my experience).

the guy that is doing my install this saturday says it has lifetime warranty... if it discolors, bubble, peel at the edge, or anything that is of the film or install, he will do it again free of charge.

mine is gonna cost $750... it's more then anyone elses' that posted here but for some reason, northern VA area, this is pretty cheap... local shops charge a lot more...

i guess im paying for the lifetime warranty....

* getting the bumper, hood 18", headlights, mirrors, door cups, and front rear fender
I would suggest doing the 24" kit for the hood and fenders our cars are pretty low and 18" isn't really that much on that long hood. Also make sure your installer is using a top caoted film 3m and avery are the only one's at this point. Venture has never been that good unless they have revised there products. The top coated films are more durable and and will retain there gloss much better and to keep the clear bra looking good I suggest using Plexus plastic cleaner and polish.

See if you can talk him down on price $750.00 is a bit much for the basic kit and for that price it better be perfect. I charge $600.00 to $650.00 for the extended coverage kit.

You should not have to use a heat gun to remove this product. Allowing the car to sit in the sun for a period of time works fine. If it is peeling factory paint something is really wrong.

Here are the pictures:

I did my own the last weekend. besides 2 small air bubbles the job came out nice... I got the materials for $40 shipping included from ebay; hood, mirrors, bumper. It was easy until I did the hood... that was a 2 1/2 hour peice by itself and a total of 4 hours...

As I put it before the hair dryer is your friend, so is soapy water... I would rate the difficult level on a scale of 1 to 10 a 7 1/2.
Not bad considering you don't do this for a living. Your edge gaps are a bit big and other than a couple of air bubbles not bad. Good job! The bumper is usually the most difficult and time consuming part why so much trouble on the hood? it is completely flat.

Who makes the kit I noticed it does not cover the bumper area below the headlights.

had no trouble with the hood... thats actually the easiest thing ever... And yes you can remove it with a heat gun or hair dyer...

When I was with Audi, 3m would come almost standard with all Porsche cars... for about 36" up the hood...

Yeah the brand I got was cheap... 24.95 + shipping of $15..

bellow is a link to ebay.. (not my store)

http://search.stores.ebay.com/XtremeCity_s...4384240QQsofpZ0

I had to stretch the crap out of that bra with the heat gun to make it look good on the bumper... But at the end it was worth the trouble. $40 vs. $600 in some cases.

PS that was my first install... I was outside with a little wind while doing this... keeping the wind out of the equation would be my next advice.

And the the CF hood question above.. is the hood Clear coat or painted?.. whats the finish... Porsche used to apply it to Carrera GT (whole car is CF) up 36" I don't think it matters as much, but let us know what finish you have.

Are they precut or come in sheets? Are body kit owners SOL?
Is it okay to install immediately after a new paintjob?
Personally, I think I would only do the front bumper and maybe part of the hood.

YEAH, THEY'RE PRECUT, AND YOU JUST NEED TO WAIT UNTIL YOU PAINT JOB IS CURED... 2 TO 3 DAYS depending if your car was air dryed or ovened at 170 degrees... My paint was fresh... I waited 4 days...

But do they have sheets of the stuff and apply it to a aftermarket bumper?

If you got an after market part, hood, or bumper, you'll need someone with skill to cut while installing... or try in yourself... be aware, trying it yourself will require a lot of skill as you have a high chance of cuting your own paint with a razor blade...

Oh and here is a trick... If you get air bubbles and the heat gun isn't working for you, get your car to a body shop and have it baked at 170 for a while... this got rid of all my air bubbles...

you can peel it off without it damaging your original oem paint. heat gun isn't really necessary. i've seen it peeled off on my car w/o a heat gun and nothing happened to the paint.

the kit comes in sheets that are precut. it's cut from a plotter machine.

Had mine clear bra about a year ago and then again recently since my front end needed a respray. i have the 18" kit which goes up about 1/3 of the way up the hood. got the hood, fenders, front bumper, headlights, oem lip, side mirrors, base of the side mirrors, door edges, under door handles, front wheel well, rear wheel well, and both side skirts for $495. i had a hook up on mine which is why i have all the extras, but a standard kit is the front bumper with or without the oem lip, side mirrors and fenders. some places charge an extra 75 or so for the headlights.

if you've had your car repainted, i'd wait 30 days for the paint to cure before clear bra-ing. from all the shops and clear bra people i've talked to, everyone suggests 30 days at a minimum. if you clear bra it too soon, when you go to take it off in the future, it may take some paint off with it.
