The diffusers will go on sale on our web site Friday morning (www.ricks2k.com). The price will be $89 per pair, plus $10 shipping and handling. For now, we are anticipating being able to produce no more than 10 sets per week, so orders will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. We may be able to increase weekly production volume, but for now we have to plan for 10 sets a week. Production should begn next week.
We are also offering a conversion option for people who don't want to do the conversion themselves. This option will be $325, including the clear diffusers, plus shipping and handling. This option will be explained in detail on our web site, but basically, it requires that you remove your headlamp assemblies and ship them to Maryland for the conversion work. The turnaround will take 2-3 days, so if you chose this option, you will be without your headlights for at least a week, depending on the shipping method you chose. We are not offering a core exchange for this option, largely because the condition of each person's headlamp assemblies will vary widely (if yours are relatively new, for example, you wouldn't want a older set in exchange for another owner's set that are pitted or scratched). Installation instructions will also be posted tomorrow on the installation page of our web site: http://www.ricks2k.com/info/install.html Update: Here's a photo of the first clear casting next to a stock amber diffuser: http://photos.imageevent.com/artsci/...r%20lenses.jpg For as long as owners have been doing the clear-corner conversion, people have been looking for a reasonably-priced set of clear lenses to replace the amber plastic lenses that cover the exposed reflectors and bulbs. Until now, proposals to make such a lens have been stymied by outrageous production costs. Many people have been deterred from doing the conversion themselves because they don't like the look of the exposed reflector and bulb, even though the do-it-yourself conversion saves a cost of well over $800 for the JDM or EDM clear corner headlamp assemblies (which have a clear lens with a different pattern). A fellow owner has now found a source that can produce a clear plastic lens set that perfectly matches the amber lens pattern. If all goes according to plans, we can produce a clear lens set for about $85. With these lenses, you can do a conversion that will look very professional and better than stock. We're lining up the first production run, but we need a volunteer to provide an amber lens set (both right and left lenses) out of the stock US headlamps. The manufacturer will use this set to make the mold for the production run. The first person who supplies us with an amber lens set will recieve a free clear lens set from the first production run. Post here and email me at hesel@artsci.com if you have an amber lens set you're willing to swap. |
Another great product on the way!!!
Sign me up for the first batch !!! Thanks Rick ! ! ! |
Hi Rick i'm also interested in those clear lenses... i just ordered some badge sets from ya hope they are coming soon i cant wait!!! I'd volunteer my lenses but need to see how long i wouldnt have them and how i'd remove them.. i have no expirience with doing nay work on the car...
Patrick:D  |
I'm assuming that some people who have already done the conversion have the amber lenses lying around. I certainly wouldn't want you to take your headlamps apart just to supply us with amber lenses.
I have a set I'll swap. I just sent you an e-mail.
Woohoo!
Have you considered using the jdm/euro-spec lens as a model? Just wondering...
Looking forward hearing when the first batch is ready!
Most people want the US lens pattern -- they think its more aesthetically pleasing, and we agree.
Woo-Hoo! Just what I have been waiting for. Sign me up for the first batch also!
If the first guy who contacted you about the amber lens doesn't go through, I can send you mine. I have them lying in my garage right now and can send ASAP if you want.
Gateace,
You're the first to reply, so we have a deal. I tried replying to yoy by email, but it was rejected for some odd reason. Send the amber lenses to me at: Rick Hesel Art & Science Group 6115 Falls Road, Suite 101 Baltimore, MD 21209 Thanks! And thanks to everybody else for offering the lenses so quickly! I'll keep you informed about our progress on making the clear lenses. |

Hey Rick,
Is the clear lenses also going to have a reflective part like the original amber pieces? There is a substantial amount of detail to these stock lenses! I've had people already look at them awhile ago to duplicate and they all said there's no way to get that much detail in a copy! I'm not saying that you can't do it or anything, just stating what I've experienced. http://www.socal28.com/s2k_amber_lens1.jpg http://www.socal28.com/s2k_amber_lens2.jpg http://www.socal28.com/s2k_amber_lens3.jpg It'll be great to get these exact stock to clears! Good luck Rick! :) |
damn i'm down for this!
These will be copies, so we're hoping to caputure are much of the detail of the amber lens as possible, but we won't know for sure until the mold is made and we start producing them. They'll be vacuum formed.
We have plans for clear only at the moment, but smoke may be a possibility down the road if demand warrants. |
I'm definitely in.
Oh hell yeah! Count me in.
I need one!:eek3: :D
I'm in Rick!
This may be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm in.
At last!
Add me to the list! |
Please add me to the list Rick!
Thanks.. |
Three comments:
1. Great work Rick, you never cease to impress me! 2. Isn't there a way to get the clear lenses from Honda Japan since I believe the lens is assembled with the headlights via the factory or some vendor? Might be more hassle but it would be a perfect match since these clear lenses are already manufactured for the JDM and Euro versions of the S2K. 3. If this works out I want to encourage members to get together and combine their skills to do group conversions. I bet there are lots of people in Southern California (for instance) who would like to make this mod but need some help. If we can get a San Diego group together I would be happy to offer my garage, tools, oven, etc. in exchange for help/support. |
Rick,
Will you be making a set of instructions with pictures for this mod? I hope so since your other items include such good instructions. I would hate to make a mistake on these expensive headlights. |

I'm in too. Can't wait till they are ready. Not to be pushy, but how long till you think they will be ready? If you don't know, don't worry I'll wait :)
I just don't know about the side reflectors at this stage. If they are made with a special manufacturing process, we obviously won't capture it. But I feel lucky that we've gotten this far.
As for production time, we won't know until we get the amber lenses to the manufacturer. Rick |
Ohhh...nice. I want'em too!
You'll have some by Monday or Tuesday Rick... :)
I want a set!!!! 85 bucks sounds good. Beats the hell otta 900 for JDM's!!!:eek3:
When they are ready for sale, Rick can you let me know!:D :eek3: :eek3: |
I'm in too!!! I'll paypal ya as soon as they are ready.
Put me down for a set.
I'm in!!!
Rick: Perhaps, you should wait until the 2003 is released. I think there is at least one Honda model which combines a clear lens with a small yellow side marker. AUDI seems to have done this on it latest models too. The Honda combined yellow reflector is somewhat rounded if Im not mistaken; the AUDI reflector is a small retangular strip, which I find more attractive. Just thoughts.

Rick, I 'd be willing to voluteer my car at fall colors for the clinic on this install:)
I definently want some to.
I will be interested with this deal also. Please send me the details. Thanks.
If the diffusers turn out to be of sufficent quality and we go ahead with this, we will also be offering a conversion option for those who don't want to the conversion themselves. The conversion will cost $300-325, including the diffusers, and will take about 2 days. Hyper-white high beam bulbs will be an option with the conversion.
Count me in for the conversion !!!
LAS2K Will you have them at Fall Colors ?????:) |
The line for conversions forms behind me and LAS2k :p
Count me in! -Rich |

Just got word that we will have the protoytpe in two weeks. If we are satisfied, we will be able to begin production immediately. We will be able to produce ten sets of diffusers a week once we begin production.
