Default Closing the top

Hey everyone. I have a quick question. When you guys close your top do you have to push it forward with the handle before you secure it? I have to with mine. I just wanted to see if this is normal. If not I will bring mines in for warranty. Thanks!!

Pretty normal I think. I grab the centre handle firmly, pull down I think, rather than forward and then snap the catches on. It gets easier over time as well.

S2000PILOT,

I can definitely echo Cedric's comments. At first, the top did not align well with the top of the windshield right to left and so the hooks were a bitch to engage and latch. My wife and I both had to try to pull the top forward and to the right and once we got the hooks engaged we both fell back in our seats and took deep breaths. Now after maybe opening and closing the top 20 times, it has become a snap to close the top and I can quickly do it by myself.

This is indeed normal operation, you want the top as taut as possible, pulling down on the center handle before latching it is how this is achieved.

I never have to pull the top forward, it stops in the perfect position for the clasps.

Same here, the only reason I touch the top when closing it is to prevent it from slamming down when it comes over the top. Once the motor's done closing it the top is in perfect position for the latches.

Same here. I can hook and close both latches at the same time.

I have a Red 2001 and have never had to use any pressure to close the top. It just comes over the top, I grab the two latches and they are in. As with any mechanical device, some match a little better than others. If anyone is interested in a S2000 screensaver (1681 KB), check out and download at: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicbrasil/s2000/s2000.html.
