Default CLUTCH GONE BAD

WHAT'S UP GUYS, I'm so frustrated.. just got news from honda that i need a new clutch and flywheel.. I took my 01 s2k to the dealer originally to get my transmission checked because it would grind in 3rd and 4th, was hopping my warranty would take care of it. Anyway honda quoted me $1,750. for new clutch and flywheel w/ inst... Is that a good deal???? let me know guys thanks.

get a act/comtech from HTG and take it to local shop or somthing. if you are in NYC area, take it to billman250. you'll save few hundred $ but you are getting better (in my opinion) product.

i just had to do the exact same thing. I bought the clutch kit from Hardtopguy and had it installed at a local shop. all together it cost me about 1300. The feel is MUCH better. Very good throttle response and the extra clamping force provided by the ACT pp feels perfect.

Also HTG's service is top notch. You defineately can't go wrong with the kit. If you don't want these upgraded pieces, i'd still buy the stock stuff through HTG and have it installed at a local shop. like said above, you'll save a few hundred bucks rather then going through the dealer.

You can buy the disc, throw out bearing, and pressure plate for $380 from hard top guy, or the kit that includes the flywheel for $985.

I've changed 15-16 clutches in my life on a lot of cars, but never a S2000.

*QUESTION*.....Can you "turn" the flywheel and reuse it on the S2000? On my Z28's, I can turn the flywheel and reuse them 2-3 times. You are not supposed to on the Viper, but I've used a micrometer and know it is still within spec, so I have turned the flywheel on mine and reused it once already.

BTW, I have also reused a pressure plate before when I was in a bind on a race weekend, and drove that car for 2 years with no problems! But, it didn't have a lot of miles on it, the disc had just come apart....

I also got the clutch kit from hardtopguy.
Its a little stiffer than clutch, but not by much at all. It was the best setup ever. DONT buy it from the stealership.

That sounds high to me. It cost me $1100 to replace the clutch disc, throw out bearing, and pressure plate. It should only cost the additional cost of the flywheel on top of that, as it has to be removed to get to the clutch. There should be no additional labor for that.

You are saying you have to remove the FLYWHEEL to get to the clutch? Isn't the flywheel bolted directly to the engine, and then the transmission is bolted to the bellhousing with the tranny input shaft going into a pilot bearing in the center of the flywheel? I mean, that is how it has worked on every other rear wheel drive car I have ever owned and worked on. Is the S2000 different?
