Installing an S2000 clutch is a PITA. I have done a few and charge $500 for labor. You could find an independant in your area that could do the same. Try to find one that has done an S2000 clutch before.
The flywheel is mounted between the engine and clutch as you suggested. JWA4378 may have been misguided in his information. The flywheel can be turned, but a lightweight flywheel would be better. Your engine will rev quicker and you can free up about 7 HP. If you turn the stock one please note the flywheel is recessed so the surface area and mounting area need to be machined the same amount. If not you will lose usuable clutch life.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. So, the original poster that was concerned about the price of the clutch replacement COULD if he wanted save some money and just buy the clutch parts for around $480 and save the $500 for the flywheel if he wanted. Yes, I agree a lightweight flywheel is preferred, but if he does not have the extra cash and is stuck with a dead clutch, he can do without that part.
You mentioned the S2000 clutch being a real pain to change. Is there anything unique to the S2000 that causes it to be hard or time consuming to do?
I don't own a S2000 yet, but my other cars/toys I do in my home garage on my back (no lift!). Nothing more fun than doing it by YOURSELF (which I've done!), laying there with a T-56 on your chest trying to stab the input shaft into the throw out bearing without damaging the cage!!!!
Glad to see I'm not the only one on here that turns his own wrenches.

according to helms manual, you'll have to drop engine to do it. som e others may have found other way. it's the top bolt that is hard to get to unless you drop the motor.
