no the cobalt has a turbo/FI, the s2k is N/A

fair would be comparing a N/A cobalt to an s2k

or

a forced induction s2k to the forced induction cobalts
no thats not the point. like he said, stock for stock off the showroom floor, the Cobalt wins.

my first car was an 1988 chevy nova, my mother had a cavalier (when they were first introduced), and my wife has an aveo. my step-father currently has a cobalt and used to have a silverado. chevy is crap, unfortunately my step-father works in a chevy dealership.

if somebody asked to trade a brand new cobalt with a built engine, turbo kit, perfectly tuned standalone, including a warranty, and it's a straight up trade for my s2ooo i'd have to say no. just like the srt4 the cobalt ss is fast but it is still junk...
Thats like saying my first car was a 84 Honda Civic and my wife has an 82 Prelude and after driving a new Vette I am confident that Hondas suck

if you are able to drive at 6/10ths in car A, then the same can be said for car B.
not necessarily. I was able to drive my miata way harder than I can drive the S.

While it's true that we won't ever reach a car's true potential, each driver is considered his own baseline, which means, that if you are able to drive at 6/10ths in car A, then the same can be said for car B. So if driver X can drive car A faster than car B on the same day without improving himself, then it's assumed that car A will get faster lap times than car B with any given driver.
That's partially true. I've seen some piss-poor drivers come close to my autox times in Evo's and STI's. The s2000 just takes more skill to drive fast.

But the point I'm trying to make is that lap times are just a number. Like the corvette guys that brag about their 400+ hp and never see redline. What's the point of all that power if you're not going to use it. Just so you can say you have it? So what's the point of a best lap if you're not even going to try to reach it. I try to maximize the S2000's potential on the track/autox, but I'm really doing it for fun and learning - not for the lap time itself.

BUT WHat exactly does the S2k need to beat the Cobalt. Just a few more HP?? or better suspension??
If the brakes didn't fade, I think the CR would have been faster than the Cobalt.
So, to answer your question ... racing brake pads.

So, according to that rationale, 6/10 of a Chevrolet Aveo = to 6/10 of a Bugatti Veyron???

Wow, we got to 3 pages of this? I really can't understand why all of you are freaking out. I'm sure there are some cobalt ss owners here that are rofl reading this thread of a whole bunch of s2k owners trying to justify their purchase or how flawed the test was...
Wow...Patinum said it so well and so completely that there isn't much more I could add. Except maybe this. I'll worry a lot more about what my S can and can't compete with in its class on a track when I get my competition license. Until then I'm not that worried about it. When auto-x-ing I am competing against only myself. And if you don't think I'm a competative person come down and line up against me at Gulfport Dragway (but I won't be in the "s".)
