Default Coilovers and bad weather?

I thought I heard somewhere that coilovers can have a negative impact on handling in wet/snowy weather. Is that true? I like the look of a slightly lowered S2000 and I'd like to go with coilovers. But my S is my daily so I cant forfeit handling/safety for looks.

No, why would it be? The car has coilovers from the factory.

When people ask about "coilovers", it's really pretty useless unless they specify a little more information.

I'm sorry, I am pretty ignorant about suspension stuff.

I am not sure where I heard the thing about handling, I just thought I had. And maybe it wasn't so much the coilover as it was lowering the car. Any reason lowering the car could hurt bad weather handling? Or maybe it was changing from the stock spring and damper rates? I don't know.

As for type, I was thinking of the Megan Street or Tein Flex or Buddy Club N+.

the only reason I could forsee with using coilovers is if you dont get the car aligned after lowering it and the alignment eating up the tires...

Tires are the key ingrediant where weather is concerned. That said, a poor set up with coilovers will hurt you handeling regarless of conditions. Bad alignments, running too low, or too stiff are all going to be detrimental. Coilovers are like any other piece of equipment, they need to be tuned, and tuned for how they will be used.

Tires are the most important thing.

However, if you stiffen your suspension too much, your grip suffers (I can explain this more thoroughly if I have to, but trust me here, it does). So if you have less available grip before your car would spin or plow, then it just exaggerates that when you're driving in bad conditions.
