Default cold engine rev limiter?

So I got a little over zealous today. It was about 40 out and I ended up flooring it to turn onto a busy intersection. When I reached around 6k rpms the car felt like it just cut off the acceleration and winded down. I didn't let the car warm up which I know I should have, but can anyone identify what caused the engine to just release like it did? Still relativelly new with the car.

Thanks

Cold rev limiter... you answered your own question. Need to let it warm up for it to let you rev to 9

I'm surprised you didn't describe hearing a loud BANG! I learned to avoid this issue long before I bought my S. It's amazing what you can dig up in these forums.

Can"t redline until you get 3 bars on the temp gauge. Even then, the tranny and diff aren't up to temperature, so it's best to avoid redlining for a little while if at all possible.

Everyone has had a screw up. I know you arent supposed to get on it while its cold, as with any car. Fact of the matter, I live in a busy area and made a mistake..like I stated!

I had a question about why it cut off. Got my answer.
Thanks

haha yep,
i found this out after about 2 weeks of owning the car,
i always let it warm up but there was a emergency and i had to go,
so i floored it and all i hear is a BOOM, took it out of gear so fast haha,
i think that was my fastest shift ever

but glad to see you got your answer
