thanks for all the responses...pos and neg...I certainly learned a lesson and regained a healthy dose of fear....although every second gear shift now is a little apprehensive...Oh and I forgot to mention the dude in a new Dodge Ram who pulled over and gave a round of applause out his window and said "that's the coolest f'in thing I've seen in a while"...kinda funny but I was still shaking at the time so I really didnt react..

Recently had the tail fish out on me a bit going ~40mph in 4th gear going straight ahead, not really stepping on the gas too hard, in a light misty rain ... I have the stock S-02's, but will probably be changing them for something that can actually perform in the rain ... Hard to believe such an expensive tire is anything short of great in the rain ... Glad you & your S are a-ok

I think there's an intermediate state: Those who have lost control and then regained it. That's me. Or does that mean I never lost control at all?

In any case, I think most S2000 owners are going to experience this situation at some point. The important thing is to anticpate when it might happen, and then react correctly while it's happening.

I don't consider myself to be any kind of driving genius, but I did read up on the the things to be careful about before buying this car. That is the value in threads like this one. I appreciate 04s2kWPB for posting his experience!

They say something similar about motorcyclists too. It doesn't have to be true.

I've been riding motorcycles since 1985 and haven't put one down on my own yet. ( I did get rear-ended at a stop sign by a brain dead driver in a Malibu!)
I don't think the old saying about bikes every specified if you would be at fault or not.....

Give him some credits. He said he lost controlling of his car with cold tires and wet road, even the OEM tires on MY04 are RE050 which is better than S02 in the wet. This is a reminder to other owners that "be very careful when the road is wet", the limit of the best tires in the wet condition is much less than the average tires in the dry road.

I'm responsible enough to autocross my S and play at the limits in a controlled environment. I don't push it to the limits of the car or my talent on the street!
I guess it doesn't have to be true. But you have to understand that to a lot of people, the S2000 is an entirely new driving experience when they first get it. For example, I've never spun out (on the street), but did experience a little more oversteer than what I'm comfortable with. Why? Because I'm irresponsible? Not necessarily. But because I was used to cars that were FWD, had tires that did well in the wet, lower power, and more prone to understeer than oversteer.

I sure hope I won't have to post anything like this any time soon.

Glad you made it out without a scratch.

Glad your ok most importantly. It's fortunate that you get to learn this lesson for so cheap...other's have had to pay a big price....not just monetary....

Drive safe.
I rarely agree with SIIK2NR, but lately your making alot more sense.

I couldn't have said this better...
