Default Collision or Comprehensive? PLEASE HELP!

Woe has befallen my S once again . Some careless lowlife backed his high bumper into my Sebring while it was parked. Now there's a DEEP 2" gouge on top center of the front bumper. The foker had left by the time I got back.

1) If I approach my insurrance company, does this count as collision or comprehensive?

2) For all you State Farm members, especially in VA, did your rate go up when you filed claims under comprehensive?

Thanks for all your help in advance. This is a real time of need...
Why is my S so injury prone! I just got the scratch from a keying fixed!

I would think that this would constitute a "comprehensive" issue. "Collision" is coverage for your own car when it is your fault.

Comprehensive.

and good luck with the claim. check your deductible. those gouges are going to be more painful after you get some estimates.
i strongly recommend the following three shops:

wagonwerks in south arlington
nt autobody in alexandria
falls church auto body

good luck

Sorry to be the odd ball guys. This IS going to be a collision claim. I've handled auto claims for 8 years in the state of CA. I'm not sure about VA insurance laws but this seems pretty basic. I'd check my policy contract to see what is covered under each coverage. Think about it guys, there was a COLLISION here. Comprehensive coverage is for claims other than collision, usually with the exception of a collision with an animal. Again, check your policy contract or call your claims rep, not the agent, the actual person handling your claim. Agents are useless middlemen that are only in it for the money.

Im gonna agree with S20004C-Man!. Im not in the states and im not in the industry but from what i know that is considered a collision. Another car did hit you. Something like someone keying your car is considered vandalism and falls under comprehensive.

I would just call up my insurance company and ask them.

it is considered a comprehensive claim. just call them up and say ur car was hit when u werent there. there is no way any company whether its state farm or not to know "what" hit it. it could of been a bat that was swung at it, or someone kicked it. which would all file under the comprehensive claim issue. a collision claim WILL increase ur insurance and a comprehensive will NOT. unless you have a horrible record likle me and they might just kick you out like they did to me. anyway, good luck on ur claim. just make sure when you claim it, generally state that it was hit when you were not there and u're not sure by what. that way you're deductible will be low and u will be happy. good luck!

100% collision in California

comprehensive is:
someone keyed your car
broke your window
crack windshield from road debris

This issue just came up with me and State Farm when I was modifying my girl's policy. This is DEFINITELY a collision issue if you're being honest and you could attempt to lie about it but chances are the adjuster will know the difference between a baseball bat and another car. Best not to try and lie about it. I've been with State Farm since 1982 and this is a collision issue.
