Is there an official insurance thread? If not there should be one.

nope...they go by VIN, and as anyone who has studied VIN designations know, there's no color designation.
Records are so complete they DO know the color when you run the VIN. I can't recall how many times somebody (insurance, repair, dealer, Honda website) has asked for the VIN and presto! There is your car with color.

Yellow is the least stolen color for any car. 2% in North America. Could be resale is low, thieves don't want to be seen in an easy to spot car, and fewer cars available to be stolen of that color.

However, it is generally believed insurance rates won't be affected.

The S2000 rate of theft is pretty low, 2 or 3 thefts a year but it seems to me to be higher from comments I read on forums.

I dont see how that's possible, since VINs dont designate color...there's probably a master database out there that holds those relationships though.

1. If they did charge more for color, my boring "Smurf" blue should get a refund.
2. Now, my son's Rio Yellow Pearl, out to cost more, what an attention-getter!
3. I drove my 04 Suzuka Blue for 3 yrs. , no tickets, I drove his for 1/2 hour, and got a ticket! This is while transporting it back from Raleigh, NC to Indy.

4. Insurance: I pay $620ish/yr with Erie, full coverage, $250 deductible. I'm 61.
5. My son, 29, perfect record, pays about $1000/yr. with Erie.

Insurance rates don't differentiate by color. It's a myth like some other people have eluded to. As far as the VIN number telling you color, that is something a dealership can tell (like color, build date, etc.) but the general public doesn't have access to that info.

and btw, we don't have an official insurance thread because there is no real value for one. What one person pays will never be an accurate reflection of what someone else will pay.
