Ottawa, Ontario - A survey by the Canadian Automobile Association shows that yellow and black vehicles have the highest collision rates, while white and gold vehicles have the lowest collision rates. The CAA tracked collision rates by colour using information from its 2000 Vehicle Ownership Survey. Here are collision rates by colour of vehicle from highest to lowest:

1st Yellow
2nd Black
3rd Purple
4th Blue
5th Silver
6th Red
7th Grey
8th Green
9th Burgundy
10th Beige
11th White
12th Gold

Splendid Post.

Now for some non scientific rambling (from a scientist).

Since yellow is superior in visibility, one could say the drivers of the Yellow cars are more prone to accidents due to behavior.

Trying to be a bit fair, some vehicles (whose drivers tend to be more conservative) just don't come in Yellow (like Volvo).

It would be fun to have 2 parameter data normalized for the model/color combo which may show (for example):

yellow corvette to be high regarding accidents per 100 cars while gold Volvo S70 GLT to be low regarding accidents per 100 cars.

Maybe next year (since the Yellow cars are new to our market) we could get a poll of S2000 owners who had accidents and collect color data.

Your poll registered more Silver S2Ks, but I wonder if that's because there are more of them on the road than any other color.

Yep, that's absolutely correct. I think that is a big factor in why more silvers were involved.

Well, they did produce the odd one, like the 850 T5-R (240 hp, 330 NM torque) as a sedan or station wagon:

Good catch Bassman!

The Yellow T5-R was short lived in the US (maybe just 1995).

I have a 1996 850R wagon (Black on Tan).

OK, my example has some holes.

Interesting facts. As I recall most of the real bad wrecks
that have had photos posted here have been black cars. That's what I have.

Actually the Siverstone Metallic on the Honda has been noted as very hard to see! I have had several close calls even thought I consider myself somewhat conservative in the car. This shade of Silver definitely blend in with the road....
