Storing hardtop - help!
#1
I'm currently fueling marital stress by storing my S2K hardtop on the dining room floor whilst I find a convenient and secure means of storing the top in my garage. Frankly I could live with it (in it !)
Has anyone out there discovered either a bespoke S2K hardtop rig, another manufacturers rig that works for the S2K or constructed their own.
I know Porsche and BMW do them but haven't checked them out. I checked out Mazda's but it's too small.
I've got limited space so it would need to go up on a wall.
Come on guys, save my relationship.

Have you thought about a hoist that is mounted to the ceiling in your garage. I'm sure you could put together something from Home Depot.
This way you could remove and attach the top by yourself also.
If you had only a stand you would still need two people and incurr greater risk dropping the hardtop.

my CJ top hangs above my cars... a friend who is has a sail boat knows pulley systems and built this hoist for me. actually very simple and inexpensive. the CJ top is about 10 times as heavy as the stooks, so a stook hoist should be real easy to build. know anyone with a sail boat?

A pulley hoist is an option for the Miata hardtop, complete with the proper straps to secure the top. I have a red Miata hardtop hanging from the garage ceiling now. A similar system could be easily assembled for the S2K, I would think.

I saw on a previous post that someone was using a MX5 (Sorry Miata) unit to hold there hardtop. It was not a hoist system, it was a metal structure on wheels and it held the top vertically.
Sorry I cannot remember where I saw it, check the previous hardtop posts, the guy that posted it sent in several pictures of him fitting his hardtop.

There is one stand available from http://www.auco.de, I don't know if there is a US (sorry, changed that to GB ) retailer
If you need to put it on a wall perhaps you can make some L-shaped brackets for the same function.

I am a big believer in peaceful households.
That "bespoke" term rareley gets used in the US unless you are in the habit of buying suits costing $3000.
Here is a low cost approach:
Install a shelf (covered in something soft) on the garage wall with a retaining lip to support the rear of the hardtop and then mounting a rubber bumper higher on the wall to rest the front of the hardtop against.
To finish the project include a Velcro strap to secure the hardtop in place.

Don't know if this helps but word is that Honda will have a storage rack & cover for the hardtop late May or early June. In the mean time, maybe you'll just have to "store" it on the car. I too am in favor of peaceful households.
