Default Common Problems MY04-MY06 ?

I searched and found only threads for the older years. I am thinking about getting a S2K and would like to know about common issues that the mid year (2004-2006) models have that are either TSB's or recalls or even issues the factory doesn't acknowledge.

We have 04 TSBs in the Library here, but in general, the 04-05 S is solid - no issues - they don't even burn oil.

Maybe some soft-top wear reports? Don't know how common or how much due to incorrect technique, but you can find the threads here if you look.

Get out! The 04-06 doesn't have any issues to speak of? No brake rotors, no transmission/shifter/syncro, no window motors, no electrical, nada?

I am being totally serious as I have just started looking into getting one and that would put a lot of points on the yes side.

I am trying to decide between a S2000 and another car, but that's a different thread I will start.

I have an 05 with zero problems - not even the ones you listed. Treat it right and it will respond with years of solid service.

The S2000 doesn't have much electric comfort creatures to begin with.
The only thing I'd look would be the differential, but that's hard to tell from just one test drive.
Since it's 04+, over-rev shouldn't be THAT much of an issue, so..
I guess the differential is the main one you should be worried about.
Good luck finding a nice one!

I have an 04 @ 58k miles. I have top wear (1inch tear) but that was prob because of prior owner neglect.

-ALWAYS look at the top inside and out for wear. Highly recommend inspecting/replacing the elastic straps.
-My cat just went out on me (combs rattle around) but if you're completely stock that is a guarantee warranty replacement item (under 80k miles).

Other than those two problems, i haven't had any problems. I burn not a single drop of oil between my 5k oil changes. Knock on wood.

Top wear is really the main thing. Check the area above the L-shaped bracket for wear. You can look it up. That's the only issue I know of.

My 05 has 29K miles and has been flawless. I think I have spent less than $40 on scheduled maintenance thus far.
