Comparison!!
Well, here goes!
Owned the 1998 Integra Type R (0295) for 2 1/2 years mods a great Comptech Header. We will leave out the obvious diffrences.
1. Power Charastics:
Type R: 0 to 4600 rpm above average.
S2000 : 0 to 4600 rpm considerably more torque.
Type R: 4600 to rev-limiter a bear and peaky!
S2000 : 4600 to rev-limiter smooth and torquey. Not as abrupt, alot more pull.
Note: The power is much more linar with the SK2. Everwhere in the rev range it is considerably more torquey and smooth. It power delivery is not as abrupt.
Tranny:
Type R: Longer throw, smooth transition between gears. Second to third a little vague when in a hurry. But otherwise flawless.
Note: Must do changes to shift bushings. Neopreme (spelling) are a must! Stock very sloppy
S2000 : Wonderful short throw, couldn't be better. First to second a little notchy but should disappear with time. The rest, no comparsion. F1 verses SCCA. No changes needed.
Clutch:
Type R: Very good solid clutch as long as you don't load it frequently. Fads and looses is chrispness quickly. Spongy pedal. Fixed somewhat by bleeding regularly. Type fluid no apparent change.
S2000 : Absolutely bulletproof. Crisp engagement, tight pedal even when loaded excessively. Excellent engagement. Flawless.
Interior:
Type R: Spartan but really functional. Nice layout. Average stereo. Poor seats for long trips and spirited cornering. Found myself struggling to keep on top of things. Bolsters to small for a car with this kind of handling.
S2000 : Finally found a car that fits my frame. Feels like it was setup for several purposes. Sport/Touring ?? Maybe. Anyway it has the comfort for long trips and boy do I know about this being from Del Rio, TX.
Support for the twisties is major excellent. It allows you to stay in control without wasted energy. Stereo, well, above average but not for this price. Of course on the par with the Type R. Layout for me is excellent. No nonsience just business. All controls are placed in a finger stretch. Well thoughtout. I love it!
Handling: (The Biggy)
Type R: Well lets see. Picture yourself on a F1 go-cart. Handling is well to say the least excellent. Minimal body roll. Naturally the ride is similar. Damping and rebound is tight. Response is crisp and always there. Sometimes to much for most. The best handling front-drive car made period. Oversteer!
S2000 : This is unfair. A little more body roll but most wouldn't notice the diffrence. Oh, I love power drifting the back end on this car. Can't do that with the Type R boys! Neutral steering superb. Z6 Vette get out of the way. Steering more or as responsive as the ITR. But try to do a power doughnut in your ITR.
I can go on but you ask the questions and I'll try to answer.
Lastly, I bought this car to upgrade from a really superb performance car. Well as you notice I still have the S2K. For the money you couldn't buy a better automobile in "it's" class. Z3, Audi TT, Boxer, even the Vette. I know this is going to raise some eyebrows but thats just the way it is. Unless of course you want to spend 100K.
All things considered the choice of the auto is strictly personal. But I looked at all of these vehicles and drove, well flogged them and you ain't gonna get better out of the box.
Thanks

BP,
If you are truely wanting an upgrade this is the way to go. Not the only way but THE way.!!!!! I thought that I would really have to spend upwards of 50 to 100K to get the same seat of the pants performance. No regrets or doubts!
