The tires were cold, do you have stock s02's?
No they were toyo proxes ts-1 245/45/16 on the stock rear rims. I really do need to get this car on a track/autox i was really surprised by it tonight. Thanks for all the well wishes and thanks for the advice everyone. It's really great to be part of a community like this

@negcamber - will do - i think i'll take it in for alignment tomorrow because i want a good look at the underside and suspension too.

I would agree that the cooler temperatures didn't help; and in my experience with the Toyo T1S (on my FWDer), the 'forward' traction under less than ideal weather conditions was not that stellar, even though the handling was great and lateral stability in rain was incredible.

Seriously, at least in the wet, it was difficult to avoid peeling out at a stoplight; an issue I never had with my all-season OEM tires, even when they got old and busted.

I have the T1Rs on the rear of the S2k now, and they've been stable all around (after the greasy break-in)...but I learned when to drive the car cautiously, long before getting those tires.

Hey man I totally understand what it feels to be humbled. Happened to me not once, not twice, but thrice. I used to own an accord before this and I was always comfortable pushing it to the limit because it had ESC and ABS. Nonetheless within a week of purchasing the S2K I lost traction after making a right turn. I was not racing, v-tecing or anything. What happened is that as I turned, the road surface went from pavement to smooth bricks. The car's tail went like crazy and I tried to correct and overcorrected. In total I had to correct about 3-4 times before the car stabilized. Although nothing bad happened, it was definitely not a pleasant experience. I later found out the tires with which the car came were almost worn out. I guess I overlooked that when I purchased the car. Another time it also happened to me was similar to this one, it was when I went to a distinct surface type while accelerating slightly. I have since then learned to not accelerate much if I am making a turn.

I believe this kind of stuff happens partly due to the fact that although the S2K is nearly 50:50 weight ratio, the weight is concentrated towards the middle section of the car.

Lmao, the S2K is quite a car. I'm glad nothing happened to you or anyone.

By the way I've also heard about doing an alignment but "better" tires also help. Apparently my current tires are just "ok" but I still need to use them up before I change.

I dunno, I had a MR2 (most beloved car ever to this day) and it was never twitchy. It makes me feel like I am walking on a tightwire driving the S compared to the 2.

I also recommend the UK spec alignment. Also, especially as temperatures drop, keep an eye on tire pressures. This car is ultra sensitive to tire conditions.

S- 240hp 2835lbs

Not enormously disparate.

Thanks again for the well wishes and as the shock wore off and I'm really starting to be concerned i broke something ... i hit the sidewalk at at least 35...40.
I had a similar experience messing around a bit on an empty road, same 1-2 shift point around 35-40mph. I was not so lucky though. Jumped the median with the front left leading the way- the OEM 17" wheel got a slight dish and something(s) important IS bent ( ), airbags went off. Still trying to get it sorted from that incident. Strangely enough, like you, not a scratch anywhere on the body work?!?

Yes, makes me worried - i have to check the rims to see if they are bent (i've already done this externally) but i think i should really check once it's on a lift for the alignment. Thanks for posting your experience!
