In GA, we pay sales tax (around 6%) when you purchase a car and then an ad-valorem tax every year when you register the car. I just paid mine and it was right at $400 for my MY2001.

 

Illinois varies by county from a low of around 6% to a high of near 8%. All residents pay this tax at the dealership for new, or when and where the car is registered if used. (Used taxes vary depending upon the value of the car)

Johnny......you need to move to Cobb County......5% sales tax, and I just paid about $360 for the initial registration on a brand new 2002!
