Definately don't try this without a reinforced diff.

If you don't launch in VTEC then you run a real risk of bogging the engine when you launch, causing all the mechanical linkages to absorb the shock (or cause clutch slip). You MUST break the tires free upon launch. Shortly after breaking free, you moderate the throttle to get as short a burn as possible while slowly putting more power to the pavement. I saw a good thread on how this is done not too long ago, I think Legal Bill gave a good description. If you break the tires free there is minimal initial shock on the mechanics.

As for tires, there is a large difference between being hot and cold. The stock tires do very well, while they may not be as good as slicks, they do give different grip at different temps, and it's probably not near the difference as a true drag tire, but you don't want complete grip, because I don't think you could launch too many times without breking something (even reinforced) if the tires don't break from the pavement.

I just got the vortech kit and haven't run any times. I can only say that it feels much faster than 13.7 @ 105.6 that road and track quoted. They did say most of that is half way down the track, which would mean a lower launch RPM. I ended up with 271.1 rwhp @ 8750. Stock was 171@8000. This was a mustang dyno which gives lower numbers.

Hey AZS2000, no intercooler?! get one, then you'll be sub 4 with your crazy launch! What other mods? Final gear ratio change?

yeah, this is true if you're not driving in the powerband in this car.

if you're driving in the powerband, many people don't realize that high-revving engines net more wheel torque from gearing than cars that have a lower redline so the spec 152ft-lb can be misleading.

Right, so if you think of it another way... while you are at 8k rpm in FIRST gear, the other guy has had to shift already (because he can't rev as high) which nets him a lower torque multiplier because his second gear isn't going to pull nearly as hard as your first gear. Hope this makes sense, a lot of people don't realize this is why a car with 150 ftlbs (at the crank <-- important) revving to 9k can win a car with 300 ftlbs revving to only 5k.

ok, so AZS2000, what are all your mods? I have gathered that you have a Comptech SC, Reinfornced Diff, and running on stock tires? anything else, exhaust, header, gears, dropped any weight?

The trap speed was 110mph.

As far as other stuff...

Comptech Rear Lower Tie Bar
Comptech Upper Tower Brace
Spoon X-Brace
Denso Iridium Spark Plugs
Carbon Fiber Hood
Modifry's Shift Warning
Kaaz Limited Slip Diff
Comptech SS header and exhaust <-- (makes the car VERY loud with the SC)

This is the only performance stuff I have...

I do take out the passenger seat and everything from the trunk before I run, and try to have the gas tank less than 1/4 full (does anyone else do this??) haha.

Hey AZS2000 what was your 60ft time. With some bald stock tires I was only able to manage a 2.27 60ft and 13.5 @ 107mph. Only took it to the track once. Might try it again at the end of the summer.

Oh boy, had to dig out my slip for this.. so many numbers. 0-60 ft time was 2.09 (relatively slow for the ET, showing the pwr is still at the top end).

My first SC run was 13.7 @ 103 mph, ouch! It got much better with practice!
