Objectively: Build quality is top notch like everything that comes out of that place. Nice welds. Perfect fit. Looks beautiful polished. Comptech is etched (?laser) on the tips but you can only see it if you get real close and only from above.
Subjectively: It definitely drones especially when driving up a slight incline (not too difficult to find around these parts ). Since mine is a weekend car, I don't mind the tradeoff of having a real exhaust note back there.
But, honestly if I had to commute any distance on the freeway it would drive me nuts. Again, subjective.
It definitely does NOT have either the raspy or farty sound of some aftermarket stuff you hear a mile away.
Very true. The drone is noticeable at about 3k rpm and on inclines when in a higher gear. Like Halo said, it's a weekend/auto-x toy for me so it's no bother. However, having to commute daily with it would be unwelcome.

I've got a Comptech and a friend has a Mugen. I personally prefer the Comptech. It's less expensive, sounds better IMO (the Mugen is a bit too quiet for me), and looks better IMO (I like the polished look). The only advantage I'd give to the Mugen is the name and weight.
I agree with everything Rob has said here...exactly why I bought a comptech also...don't get me wrong...i like Mugen...great quality.......I love deep sound of the comptech
I have a Mugen with manifold, It booms a bit around 1700rpm which is slow moving traffic. Above that it is reasonably quiet apart from vtec. Dont know what the comptech is like but the Mugen build is excellent, its lightweight and it improves lower torque. I feel its worth the money as I dont like boom boxes.
I've had the Comptech for 4 years now and I am still in awe of the sound. The drone at cruising speeds is music to my ears. On hard acceleration it sounds very sporty w/o sounding ricey. I also have had the Comptech intake for 2 years and the combination of both, well.....it's a marriage made in heaven! I can't wait until I get Rick's new header this month, that'll complete the ensemble.
