Confidence Lost
I actually push my car harder when I experience something like this. Although I've never gone into a full spin (in the S2000) I have had the rear swing out on me a bit and had an incident of stupidity with a lift throttle near-mishap. I like to know the limits of my vehicle and the limits of my driving ability. I have full confidence in the car, but only about 50% confidence in the driver. Pushing it raises my confidence level in the driver.
I do take it easier during group drives and when I have a passenger.

LOL!!!!!!
Getting back on topic, when I bought the car I felt like I was Colin whatshisname. I used to scream into corners like my hair was on fire.
The one cold morning........WHOAAAAAAAAAA. Hehe. I gathered it up very nicely and kept going, but it taught me to be a little more respectful of the cars limits.
I agree with the general sentiment. Public roads are not your own personal racetrack.
But that doesnt mean you can downshift to second, and take the outside curve of a 270 degree on ramp, passing no less than four cars, right at 5k rpms, and opening it up directly into vtec right as the car straightens out. (The supercharger helps in situations like these). Redline in second, redline in third, into fourth..........ooops, shit. Better slow down.

I agree that going 100% on public roads is dumb, that's what the track is for. Backing off just because of "fear" of repeating a close call is bad too. Being to timid leads to bad things like throttle lift oversteer, which just makes one even more timid.
The important thing is to reason why the incident happened and figure how to avoid or just as important what was the best way to solve it. When you are prepared, trained and calm you are truly in control and that is experience and not false confidence.
