Unfortunately, I was kind of disappointed in the vehicle. I think the lack of low end power was the biggest problem
Of course it was

It is a plain 2 litre tuned for economy below about 7000 RPM

You are not supposed to obtain "low end power" in an S2K

You are intended to have fuel economy. Which you have got.

Cheers

I did get into the high RPM range a couple times, but can't honestly say I noticed much of a kick.
The only polite answer is that the car you were driving was mechanically broken.

After about 7k RPM you are rocketed into F1.

It appears AC was the main culprit yesterday. I took a drive with AC off today, and it was much better (hot as hell, but better). I also kept the shift points up higher and that made a difference too. This is definitely not a car that responds to relaxed driving -- you have to work it, but that's OK as long as I can work it and avoid tickets.... I guess that's one thing I appreciated about the WRX -- you could drive it liesurely, but full thrust was never more than a few hundred RPM away if you wanted to go mental. The power band in the S2K is a few thousand RPM away from leisurely cruising, but you can leash it in with more agressive downshifts.

Now the bad news is that Honda dropped the lease program on the S2K as of Aug 1 (yesterday). They had a 36 month lease deal that essentially was equivalent to 1.75% financing -- it was a no brainer to lease in this case, even if I wanted to buy the car at lease-end. The lease deal has been repeating every month since at least June, but it didn't get renewed this time around. Has anyone else been following Honda's lease programs? Any chance it may happen again?

give it another try...with the top up and the A/C off. i think it is a totally different car with the top up especially in higher speeds. and about the WRX, it is definitely not faster than a regular rex, cuz i beat my friend's WRX with some bolt ons with my stock S from a roll (haven't tried from a dig though)
