Conscience of an 18 year old
Everything is relative. I have provided cars to both of my kids, pay their insurance and in most cases pay for repairs. I do this because they are good people. I also ask that they take care of them and do normal maint. and smaller repairs. On the other hand I have friends who cannot afford to provide cars to their kids and that is fine too. I also have a friend who purchased a brand new car for his daughter. He had the means to do it.
I guess that I am trying to say that there are many factors. If your parents can afford to do this for you, you respect them and treat them and others right and you do what you need to do such as school and work then I would say take the car.
If however, they would have to sacrifice (anything) to do this then I would feel guilty too.
Jim

Jay,
Tak the car, man. You're getting it with lots of love.
If you feel guilty for your good fortune, then just take that guilt and turn it into profuse love and affection for your Dad (and Mom) and vow to be the best son on the planet earth. Every time you think great thoughts of your S2k, pick up the phone or go into the house and give your parents a great big hug and tell them you love them.
Excell in everything you do. Every job you take, every relationship you build, in every interaction with your family members, be the very best person you can be. Your parents will be as proud of you as you are of your car. That's great payback.
It's as simple, and as profound, as that.

Thanks for the quick replies.
STL- I'm definitely not bringing it up here in the winter...I don't plan on bringing it up here at all unless I can get covered parking, which I doubt. Besides, it's winter majority of the time here, so I won't get too much enjoyment out of it. Also, you better believe I've got everything ready so that first thing I do when I get it is to clean, polish, and wax the car. One of the reasons they're willing to get this car for me is because they know I'll take care of it (I've never been pulled over or gotten into an accident).
Ben- I'm mainly concerned with getting into the B-school here! From one Asian to another, I'm sure you understand my position. They're paying for my school and my car, so sure as hell better do well. I certainly don't plan on mooching off my parents, I've got high ambitions and goals for myself.
Anyways, thanks again for the responses...I'll see how I feel over the next few days about it.

I'd be more concerned about what other kids my age think. When I was 16, there was another kid in my class that had a 928s. Although his car kicked ass, it only made him look like more of a pampered, spoiled dork than he already was.
Cool cars might make cool people cooler, but they definitely make lame people lamer.

Conscience bothering you eh?
Maybe it should bother all of us.
How can any of us justify this car.
1. Basic transportation can be had for much less than US $32K. Maybe we all should have bought basic transportation auto's and given the leftover money to charity.
2. More environmentally friendly modes of transportation could be found as well: electric autos, fuel cell's, bicycles, or gasp!, public mass transit.
3. Fill in your own guilt here.
But you know what, I feel fine. My nights are filled with vtec dreams and sound sleep.
Face it, there is a level of decadence involved in owning a sports car. So whether your worried about having your parents pay for your car or the current marketplace that allows you to bill exorbitant consulting rates, I say pack you Conscience in the secret compartment, find a twisty road and rev to the red. ( That is at least until they put an emergency release handle in there too )

( wow, I must really be bored today.)

Wow, all these responses in such a short time...I really appreciate it guys. Anyways, I can understand from my parents point of view that they want to give their kids the best that they can. I can see that, and I think they know that I understand the value of money and the hard work it takes to earn it.
I've told them my concerns about the money part of it, to which my dad responded, "That's not for you to worry about." My mom said, "Yeah, it's a lot of money, you better do well in school."
I can understand both their points, I just hope I can live up to the expectations I have set for myself and the ones they have for me.
Sunchild, I don't know if you were implying anything with your response, but I've always had the mindset that if you're fortunate enough to have what you do, there's no need to be showy about it. Just appreciate the fact that you're lucky, and be humble knowing that it could very well be the opposite.

Jay,
It sounds to me like you've got your sh!t together. Your parents have offered twice over because they are proud of you and your achievements thus far. I doubt they want to pressure you with extravagent gifts to do good in school. Show them your appreciation by taking good care of the car. Showing responsibility for the car and leaving it at home out of harms way further proves you're fit for this car. All i can say is happy driving.
P.S. someone mentioned what your peers will think, I say screw em those poor jealous B@stards
