Jay .... go for it man. As long as you have the blessing of your parents and you are not coercing them into it then you deserve to enjoy the good things in life. If your parents want to buy this car for you there's nothing to feel guilty about. You will just have to work extra hard at maintaining an aura of modesty around less fortunate friends your own age.

Another interesting observation. It may not seem expensive to them. I have friends who came from Taiwan, Signapore, etc. They drive crazy expensive cars (to us). However, in their country, Chrysler minivans cost $80K. And this doesn't include the hassle to even have permission to buy it! So when they end their kids to the US for an education, etc. $35K doesn't seem so bad.

It's kinda warped, but that's the way it is.

Song, I wish I could say that applied, but my parents know how much it really is. They spent 25K when they bought my older brother his car, and I don't think they planned on spending this much on my car...how they ever decided on it, I don't know. Maybe I'll ask...

and Muz, I've always tried to keep myself modest. Like I said before, if you're fortunate to have what you do, be humble about it.

If you desire it; If your parents are in a financial situation to afford it, If you plan on making payments; If you got a scholarship to college...then get it.

Hell Jay, I'm proud of you and I'm not even your parent. I'm very proud of both of my kids. I can't afford anything that extravagant, but if I could I would buy it because as Nathan said I want to see them happy while I'm here. I do lavish my grandkids (4) with what I can afford and believe me I wouldn't trade that happiness for anything. They are so much fun.

Jay Li, well you are a very lucky man! I think, again going back to my grandparents, you should feel good that they trust you enough to buy you a $35,000 RWD sports car! I know I was heart broken when I wasnt aloud to buy a 300ZX for that very reason.

I think your father wants you to start off on a good foot in life and not have the trials and tribulations he did. I also understand why this bothers you, he worked for everything in his life, and you respect him for that, yet you get things as gifts and you fear you wont be respected, which is totally legit feeeling (but not neccasary the case). Atleast thats my take This is tough, I know most people are saying for for it. But its seems they are saying so because its an excellent car for free. I would say why not get a cheaper car, but any car will get you these feelings from yourself and reaction from others. No matter if its a new Civic or a new NSX.

Refuse it once. That's enough character building for anyone of your age.

If they offer again, take it, enjoy it, appreciate it, and appreciate them for giving it to you.

Think of something you can do for them that they would appreciate as much as you do the S (that'll be hard, it's a hot car).

BTW, where can I get some of them parents?
