conservative relatives?
driving to Ventura tomorrow to show new S2000 to my conservative parents. they're gonna shit. mom will fuss about safety. dad will fret about the sinful price, then wanna ride. at least i'll enjoy the beautiful 100-mile drive up PCH from OC. and get some wicked satisfaction from their disapproval. i'll post results. anybody else with conservative relatives?
Rent a 360 Spider and then after they give you all kinds of $hit about it, tell them that you really got an s2000, then they'll love it. You just need to give them a perspective that is favorable to you. You'll look like an angel for saving $150k by not buying that Ferrari

there's a place on the vegas strip that rents exotics. waddaya think they'd want as a deposit?
the deed to my house?
Even a conservative parent can appreciate that this car is given a 5-star rollover rating by NHTSA, as well as a 5-star side impact and 4-star frontal impact rating. That's better than most SUVs.
And economy? Tell them that it is rated as one of the top ten vehicles for resale value (I can't remember the source, but I read it a few months ago on this board). Also, it has a 2-liter engine, and if driven conservatively will probably get better gas mileage than the cars they are driving.
Don't forget to mention Honda reliability. The true cost of a vehicle is the total cost per mile. If you keep the car long enough, the cost per mile could be better than the cars they drive.

Talk about conservative.... My problem is always with my in-laws. Actually, I call them the "outlaws." If you buy something that they wouldn't buy or do something that they wouldn't do...then it's wrong. They would want you to live your life the way they do. When they see my S, they will "shit clinkettes." Oh boy! I can't wait. Oh, and my wife and I have been putting up with this for 35 years. They never say anything to your face, but talk behind your back to others to express their displeasure.
Yeah, I do.
My Dad loves it (rear wheel drive and 6 speed!) and couldn't wait to take it out for a test drive with the top down. Mom also loves it (especially the seats). They both think it's a great looking car. I have constant questions and compliments about it from our clients (99% of which are conservative and are "older").
FWIW, I'm a gainfully employed female who is also conservative.
Gee, maybe conservatives can love this car, too--it's a fantastic car!
Edit: And if it isn't just love at first sight for them, then do what slalom suggested and explain just how great it is. Then just drive and enjoy...
