The April Consumer Reports issue just rated the 20001 cars. S2K was among the very best. All components (including the engine) received the highest reliabillity rating. In the S2K description not only did they recommend the S2K, they emphasized that the "First year reliabillity was excellent"

With all due respect: That is a load of B.S.

No way. How would you like to have your car destroyed by an "authorized" Honda dealer???

Read this and then tell me if consumer reports had it right...

(Sorry for the harsh tone, but my car's been in the shop since Jan 18th !!!!!!!!!! So I kinda have strong feelings about this).

I understand your rage. Beleive it or not Consumer Reports rates all cars on incidence of repair, maybe next year the ratings will be lower. Imagine what the owners of cars with the lowest ratings go through!

All the best with your repair!

considering only a few people have posted problems with the s2k i think it's quite reliable. I haven't had any problems other than the window motor problem which was promptly replaced the same day i brought it in within a couple of hours. not too bad...20 bad engines out of how many produced automobiles?

No offense Kalcium but why don't you take up your personal problems with Honda? If Honda fails to rectify your situation please feel free to post.

As far as I can tell, CU needs a minimum number of customer surveys in order for their Data Guru's to make the pronouncement that the data is reliable(this is why they don't have Boxster data, due to low number of survey repies).

Then the number of problems verses the number of completed surveys is tabulated and compared to similar vehicles number of problems in each area(problem areas: engine, clutch, body integrity etc.).

An excellent(the S2000 got excellent in every area) means problem percentages were among the lowest.

I believe this is sort of how they do this.

Since the data uses returned surveys (not actual sales data) it eliminates the need to research sales data.

CU is, in my opinion, for the most part the most reliable and accurate indicator of cars reliability likelyhood.

Of course with all the V-Tecing(having to wait until after a few miles)I anticipate a possible drop in the engine mechanical area to only very good instead of excellent.

BTW, the S2000 was also voted the [red]"Most Fun Car"[/red] to drive. The S2000 was shown several times on NBC Today this morning. If you are interesting in watching the video, goto this link:

CU is a very reliable and trustworthy statistician. The only bias in their surveys originates from the nature of their subscribers.

The sample they get is generally acknowledged to be from a conservative, frugal and educated population. This population tends to have certain characteristics.

You use your own stereotypes on how this general tendency (subject to many exceptions no doubt) might affect their survey or reliablity of S2000's.

My intuition is that they have sampled people that are rather careful with their car. But this is only a stereotype based guess.

Other than that possible bias, I would say that their assessment is much better than the anecdotal evidence that there have been cases with problems - often exacerbated by bonehead dealers. Anecdotal evidence, by definition, does not give fair play to the remainder, nor it's weight. As bad as a few cases may have been, we do not know how many trouble free cars offset the sample of problem cars since thier owners have no reason to write.
