I read that you only you dont need to fab a piece for where the side catchers connect to with the softop frame. That you would just lose one bolt location but the other bolts can support it.

Also, what about the rain rail. did you just leave that on the car. Is this piece connected to the convertible top.

Ive seen other with this and Ive never notice any excess wires. Where do you see the wires coming out of. there are panels which hide the wires.

How many engineers did the stress calculations on whether or not that fourth bolt is needed?

Yes, the top stays in place without it -- for a while. Maybe forever, maybe not.

I assumed you would be taking out those panels that hide the wires. I guess you could put them back in, but then there goes most of your "extra space".

Whatever. It's your car, do what you like.

The space you get is the same as if the top is up. Things do fit back there, and its actually a decent amount of stuff.

I will keep the softop assembly and whenever I do decide to sell the car, put it back on. but ive had this car for 4 years now and dont plan on selling it anytime soon.

Does anyone know about the rain rail issue. Or if there would be one.

To get an idea of what it looks like without the top there and just having a hardtop.

The top rests on trim for the rain rail. I would leave the trim on, so that the top will seal properly and not rest on the paint.

That sounds good. So the trim rail is what the convertible top is connected to by rivets.

Just gotta remove those and re-install. Do you need to take out the roll hoops. Im looking at the helms manual and it doesnt advise that.

Thanks

Just to clarify, is that black piece the top sits on the rain rail?

Or is it the piece the convertible top is connect to by the bottom when you take out the rear panel in the area the convertible top sits when its down.

Also, have taken mostly everything off, but got stuck at one area. I didnt know you had to take out the roll hoops to get to one screw which holds the panel for the convertible top. Is their any way around this or do I have to remove the roll hoops with the glove compartment.

Thanks for any help

Yes, that still is needed. The OEM top uses that part to maintain a seal with the body of the car.

Also, I read a post that their are two welding points on the convertible top. one on each side that you need to use a dremmel to take them off. Is this true??
