Convertible tops typically last 5-6 years before needing replacement. Their life varies depending on use, care, and maint. The issue is S2000 tops seem to last 3-4 years due to wear holes since the top is not protected and the material is thin.

Any solutions?
Buy a hardtop or stop putting your soft top down.

I started to get wear on my top inside, so I added velcro tape to protect the top. Lots of people have various wear areas on their tops, but most are at the rear corners, not where mine are. Some people have gotten replacement tops, but most people are like you and are told its a wear item.

That's using the old noggin!

and what do you do when you want to take the top off on the way home from work ?

I will never understand why people buy a convertible then buy a hardtop for it. I made that mistake 25 years ago and I ended up with the stupid top on the car for almost 2 years. Finally got rid of the dammed thing and put the soft top back on.
Wait til you get home and then take it off and go for a drive in the canyons . If the car were offered as a coupe and a convertible then I would see why you would say "why would someone buy a Hardtop for a convertible?". Since the car only came convertible (till the CR was born) why not put a hardtop on it? I did not want a convertible in the first place

I love this car because its fun to drive in the canyons, trackable on occasion and reliable , not because it was a convertible

As far as the tops are concerned tears seem to be quite common, I know of at least 2 with semi low milage that have small tears in them, I never used mine and had it for almost 2 years and it looked like new (car is parked in covered parking or garaged at home and work).

I sold it to a member for $900.00 after getting the HT, if the OP does not want to go the HT route I would keep your eyes open on the for sale forum for someone looking to sell theirs .
