Just to throw in a better .02 cents than I did before, I bought mine this year, so I was somewhat in a similar situation. I wasn't even that enthusiastic about the S, because I didn't care too much for a convertible, and it was small as hell, but it was one of the few RWD cars out there.

Well, I test drove one, and I loved it. Then a few months later, I bought one. And now, whenever I get home from work, I'm sad that I have to get out of the car. I just want to keep driving, but there's not many places to drive around, and rush hour OC just kills it anyway.

I was worried about the practicality, too (it's my DD), but I say, f' it. Like I said before, if you don't have a family yet, now is the time to get it. A lot of people sell theirs once the baby comes or whatever. I'm going to try to hold out as long as possible. As for your friends, there's a good chance your friends will have a 4+ seater.

I somewhat disagree about not loving it at first drive. I and everyone I know who drove an S for the first time had to tweak their shifting style. I'm not sure if it's the CDV or what. One of my friends even tried blaming the tranny coming from his M3, but eh, he's diehard bmw. You'll really love it, once you get the hang of it, though, especially once you get the hang of heel and toe. Man, I want to go drive right now.

I sold my 05 evo and got an 07 s2000 they're both great cars and i dont think you'll go wrong with either one.
The one thing you should know about the evo is that it is a HUGE cop magnet, i was getting pulled over twice a month for absolutely nothing ( sometimes the cop would say my exhaust was too loud, and its not even all that loud, sometimes he says its too low, giving me sobriety checks when im 100% sober ..etc, oh and one time this cruiser followed me for a good 15 miles until i pulled into my driveway and walked inside the house.
I recommend getting rid of the wing and getting a small trunk spoiler, i think the big wing gets a lot attention.

Everyone and their momma got an evo or wrx. I dont see many S on the road at all.

Make everyone drive their own cars....if you need to shuttle everyone around, I think you just made your decision.

i use to drive a slammed g35 sedan its was fun but its got boring i wanted to so faster in the corners and i hated carrying people (everyone wanted to be in the g35 and not there hatches)

i got the S because im a selfish SOB and i DD so its like driving a race car to school and work everyday. the only things is that i look back a million times before i leave the car alone and then worry about it the whole day about dents and shietnizz

evos are gay everyone has one. i wanted one but then i test drove one its was boring to me, fast but boring didnt feel like the s2k when i test drove it 20 min before

oh yeah the other day someone pulled up to me and ask "looks nice man is that a mercedes?" lol ahh so nicee

I'm not gonna get into this debate, but why would you want to list "to take friends around" as a reason for buying a car for yourself?

If you have no kids, you only need 2 seats, 1 for you, 1 for your girl (or boy, if you are into that gay stuff).

Go for the EVO. The S isn't for you.

Drive them back to back and see which one you like more.

They are both great cars in their own class. S2000 is a great fun roadster, and the Evo is a great fast 4WD sedan.

I'm sure somebody else has a car too, let them be the school bus.

It's not just a car, it's a lifestyle.
i can't agree with this comment any more.......its literally a lifestyle...

i can't tell you how often I try and find other S's on the road, they're a rare breed

but it excites me to find one, cuz we all got love for fellow enthusiasts

and VTEC is another world

just imagine going 100 mph with perfect hair.....and then imagine it without perfect hair haha

and besides.....drop tops get the chix creamin'
