Default Cooling down noises on 2002

Hi all,

First of all happy new year to fellow S2K lovers.

Secondly, I've notice some what loud pings and pops after parking and turning off the engine. I'm certain that my car is just cooling down and settling but the noise is pretty loud. Most cars usually make a descending tapping sound when you stop the engine but my S2K will pop similar to a camp fire (not the sound but the timing of the sound).....tapping...tapping...tapping...POP....ta pping...tapping...POP, etc. Is this normal or a break in thing? I got about 900 miles on the car.

Thanks for any help,

Archon

Most likely the catalytic converter and it's normal.

Common Honda sounds, if you have had experience with other Honda vehicles as well ... You will know that this is quite okay, nothing really to worry about anyway.

Yeah. . .pretty normal. . .the other sounds you described sounds more like a Nissan engine. I'm sure other engines have that sound as well. My wife's V6 Accord does the same as the S2000.

All normal. Open the hood and the sound is even louder.

All my Hondas have always made a lot of noise after being driven for awhile. With my first one, I was pretty freaked, but now I don't even pay attention. I guess the S2000 does it, too, I probably wouldn't even notice since my Accord still does it.

Normal, its the exhaust heat shield expanding and contracting.

Get a louder exhaust and a high power audio system so you won't be able to hear the cool down noises anymore

Thanks for the info. I thought it was all fine and normal but I've never heard that type of pop on my previous 2 cars. It's like 240 ponies are trying to get out with a spoon.
