Default COOLING PLATE

i've read in a few places that it helps the airflow to install a cooling plate and remove that black plastic piece that is behind the front bumper. would it help at all to just remove the black piece without installing a cooling plate or other air guide? has anyone done this??

thanks

No. Think about why Honda put that slanted airguide there. Air travels wherever it can and wherever it has the least resistance. Without that airguide in place, too much air would go up and over the radiator, instead of through it. This would decrease the cooling efficiency of your radiator. Those little slats in that airguide is purely to allow a little air to get past and feed the airfilter box. If you had an intake like an AEM, you could completely block those slats for an even better functioning radiator. For most of us, the rad gets more than enough air going through it, but if you live in the heat of say, Arizona or if you track the car, you need all the air you can to go through the rad.

How about the design of cooling plate can collect all the upward air into you oem airbox, do you think we should still keep that slant airguide?
Does the cooling plate more or less sit flush with the top of the radiator area except for the part that channels air into the airbox?
If it does, then the slanted airguide isn't really necessary. The engine will draw only what air it needs. The cooling plate won't cause any more air to go into the airbox than what the engine pulls in. The rest will go through the rad.
