Default Coping with an unpractical car? s2000 *cough*

Alright so to me, this is one of the finest cars for under $20,000. Though I would only spend about $15-16,000 on one I was wondering if it is down right retarded to consider one of these as an only car. I will be living somewhere on the east coast...

Yay or nay? Why? Care to share a story or two? or offer an alternative if you think this is a bad choice?

i love having the S as a daily driver. it puts a smile on my face everyday. usually i don't have to haul anything around besides stuff that will fit in my trunk so i'm fine with there not being much space. if you're living in the northern part of the east coast i'd suggest some type of snow tire though.

Daily driver here
West coast near the Cascade Mtns, we get snow here, I drive the passes (with snow tires).

Never once regretted it or had any serious trouble save once when I hit black ice (no car would have been immune), but I was able to recover decently with no mishaps.

I'd have a bigger issue with it if my wife didn't have a Jeep Grand Cherokee. My home improvement shopping would be, um, uglier (does Amazon deliver toilets?). But aside from that type of shopping, or needing four passengers, or driving in a lot of bad weather... daily driving these are no big deal.

I DD mine and it brings a smile to my face everyday after a crappy day at the office. Oh and if I need a bigger car I just ask my parents if I can borrow 1 of their cars.

OK, let me make sure I have this straight.

You are an E4 in the Army Reserve and in college somewhere.

You have no money because your mom had Power of Attorney and did not pay your bills so your credit is all screwed up.

You got busted along with some other students for file sharing and need some $3000 -$5000 to settle it. You are now desperate for money.

You were considering volunteering for Iraq to get the money to pay off the RIAA so that they don't send you to jail or sue you for a bazillion dollars.

You, although you have no money, want to buy your own body armor before going to Iraq.

You have actually now volunteered to go to Iraq in a Civil Affairs role and start training at Fort Bragg, NC next month and intend to buy an EVO IX or E46 M3 for cash on your return.

You now want to buy an S2000 for 15-16K and live "somewhere on the East Coast" and want to know if it is a practical only car.

Does that pretty much cover your S2KI posting history?

I paid $26K for mine and it's my only car. No regrets. It always puts a smile on my face. More so after the Fujita was installed.

If you're the type to value hauling stuff that comes along maybe 10% of the time or less over the sheer joy of driving then get something else. It's your choice. I'm not in the business of selling S's.

Pretty much. My debt will be paid off pending return of tour... including the settlement and I will have about $15-20,000 waiting for me. I will be getting $1,200+ per month between drill pay, stipend and gi bill with zero debt beyond gas and car insurance so I am thinking of buying an s2000. And paying with cash, or close to.
