Cordless radar detectors are a bad idea. Any of your standard detectors would only run a couple of hours on a set of AA batteries. To extend that time and make their product profitable, companies must make a sacrifice somewhere. They can severely limit the range of the unit to lessen power use, or they can cycle the unit's power on and off which leaves you unprotected whenever the unit is off.

There's a brand spankin' new Passport model that looks really good. Low power modes, etc... Not cheap though... It was around $350, I think.

You're not paying close enough attebtion to what I'm saying. If you were to take a standard, corded detector and run it off of batteries you would get a handful of operational hours out of a set of AAs. To get your wonderful 35 hours you need to cut down power consumption using one of two methods...lower detection range or cycled power (or a combination of both). Either way, neither is going to be as effective as a corded model.

It's like MacGyver said.
I own one of the "older" Escort Solo cordless detectors, use it in my beater. It's been proven by some here that the long battery life is obtained by the unit cycling on and off its detecting ability at some pre-programmed interval. If you're lucky, this won't bite you in the ass, but there's a small chance you could encounter a speed trap while the unit is doing its power conservation thing, and the second or two it takes it to "wake up" could be just enough time for Officer Friendly to clock you before you know he's there. This is why I use the Solo in my Integra, where I'm less likely to be exceeding the speed limit by a large degree. I keep my Passport 8500 hard-wired in my S, love that detector.

I have a escort solo and when tested against Macgyver's V1 he gets a much better range as well as directional sensors -

mine eats batteries at least once a month - you may ask why i didn't get the cord, well it kind of defeats the purpose of a cordless detector

if and when mine dies - i will not get buy it again
