I love how if anyone says anyting about a 9k redline being a marketing gimmick....you get flamed. Oh I forgot....Honda never would do something for marketing.....whatever. The best way to sell a car to the public is to say it makes X amount of HP. Since honda is using such a small engine they have to make it rev high to hit a good HP mark...that is it.

And anyone who says the M3 is not smoother then our cars, the S2000,
1) has never actually driven the M3
2) has vtec on the brain and is a honda fan boy
3) both 1 & 2

The M3 is probably the smoothest car on the market in it's performance range....and possibly smoother then most cars well under it's performance range. The S2000 is not the smoothest car. A 4 cylindar engine will never be as smooth as an inline-6 because of the engine balance. There is very little to help make shifts smooth in the S2000 also......which doesn't bother me one bit, but is a fact. The M3 is a much smoother car and just as fast....now is it as fun to drive...the 1999 one i drove wasn't. I will tell you what I think of the 2001 later after I drive it.

Funny, I don't see anything informative in your entire post that contributes anything to this board. I found lupin's responses to be informative and interesting since you'll never learn anything unless you are open-minded and willing to back up your opinions. Anyway, I'm in no way saying that I don't like the s2000. FYI, elanderholm is a friend of mine and I have ridden in and driven his car many, many times. I have also driven several other comparable cars and therefore have a good basis for comparison. You know what? Everything else is either inferior, or more expensive than the s2000(in my opinion). My posts were simply about one aspect of the s2000 which I believe could be improved upon (again, my *opinion*). Anyway, back to the point, I'm never claimed that the engineers don't know what they are doing, on the contrary, I believe that they knew *exactly* what they were doing and were willing to sacrifice a little driveability for an engine with slightly more potential, but harder to extract potential. Not to mention that it also makes the car extremely efficient for an NA car. I'm guessing that this probably helped on the marketing side of things a bit. There's a difference between being enthusiastic and being biased. Anyway, arguing about whether I'm a "troll" or not is just going to get a thread locked, and won't do anything for someone who actually want information, so I'm done with this discussion.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but in Canada, the Corvette convertible and the Z06 is priced in the M3 range. It's significantly more than an S2K. Plus tax you can get almost 2 S2Ks for 1 Z06.

Overhead cam technology is hardly new. It's been around far longer than anyone suspects.

I don't think S2000 and Vette owners think they have a corner on the cool car market. I have a friend who just sold a new Vette. He loved it but he's a big guy and is having some back problems and had to get a more comfortable ride - a supercharged Jag! He admires my S2000 but says he couldn't even get into it - I think he's right! He even wants to take me to his "practice track" to see how close I can come to his Vette and Jag times. There's definitely not competition between us, just a respect for the other guys stuff. He gave me a ride in his Jag and it was not what I expected. That thing will scat! I think I brag on his Jag more than he does, and he brags on my S2000 more than I do. Hey, you got to appreciate someone who will drive a cool car - any cool car!
