Not to be blasphemous, but take a look at the new Z5 due late 2003:

at 240 HP, 2200 lbs, and the new sequential gear box from BMW (which is way better then the 360 Modena F1 box), and priced as much as a 330ci (around 40k)....i want one!!
9.167Lb/HP..not bad
gonna be a hard choice between the possible C6 Z06 at 2800lbs and 450HP and a 6 liter engine...two totally different cars...maybe i will have to get both!!

I'm really getting mad at these comparisons (I like this Z5 very much though). But to me THE attraction of the S2000 is that it's a ROADSTER with great performance. Why on earth does everybody want to compare it to Subaru WRX (rallyecar), BMW M3 (closed sportsaloon), or whatever nob-roadster. Geeez, compare it to other open cars and nothing else. The comparison is extremely apples and oranges imo. Looks like a lot of people don't know how to capture the pros of the S2000: It's a roadster first of all with a fantastic engine.

If you compare it to New Z3 then it'll be a better poll imo. Quite funny that BMW is now also going for a 2.0L 4 cylinder! But it seems price is going up as well, so the S2000 stays on top price/performance I think.

Well, sometimes you have to choose whether you want to eat an apple or an orange, right?

Seriously, what may seem like an incongruous comparison to you might not be for someone else.

The S2000 has a button to make it a convertible, the Z5 would require a cutting torch, so no thanks.

I like BMWs so don't get me wrong, but I do not think they will be able to bring that car to market at 2,200 pounds. By the time they get done adding all that engineering and luxury, I will be amazed if they can match the weight.

S2000 still has my vote!
