I have been reading a lot about counter sunk shift knobs but still have no idea how it makes a difference! Tried a search, but just found a bunch of threads like this one. What exactly is a countersunk shift knob? How is the feel of it different? What do the different weights do?

 

The countersinking is this: The knob itself is threaded to the very deepest it can go, thus making it sit lower on the shifter. This makes for a somewhat shortened throw without installing a short shifter.

The weight as far as I can gather is to make for an easier throw by having more mass behind the shift. Imagine a dent puller and the different weights that you can use on one depending on how much force you need. The weight of the knob assists you in making the shift. I haven't gotten one yet so I can't say this is 100% correct, but I am sure someone can chime in if I am wrong.

I have the round T1R Ti knob and love it.

 

How heavy is the T1R and where did you get it?

 

For a completely different approach:

This one is a bit lighter than stock, I believe, but if your transmission is shifting smoothly it should be no problem. Advantages: some people (OK, I) like the barrel shape, as it nestles right into the bend of the middle and ring fingers. Also, it can be made to sit very low. When I'm
feeling lazy, I rest my arm and wrist on the center console, and shift with fingers only.

Disadvantages: it's light. It's uncomfortable if you slap your hand down off the wheel for a shift, so I imagine it'd be bad if you race a lot. And I admit it: it's ugly.

 

did the same thing on mine i had the voodoo shift knob and didnt really like the feel of the ball shape and preferred the stock shape much more.

 

What size drill and tap did you guys use? I might be interested in doing this.

 

It's a little lighter than stock, but heavier than the aluminum Voodoo I had. This knob feels MUCH better in your hand than the voodoo, IMO.

Just google Ti T1R knob... they are all over the place.
