Bought it cause it was the best of both worlds. Convertible and performance.
My first convertible was a 2nd gen eclipse 96'.......well it got stollen. After that I stuck with sliding sunroofs. Needless to say, a sun roof (moon roof) cannot compare to the "top down" driving experience a convertible gives you.
Performance wise.......top up is best but for daily driving, top down is the ONLY way I drive.
Gotta love Socal.......

Just remembered this...a hot ex-coworker of mine had a VW convertible. She used to always say "let's go for a drive topless"...too bad she never meant what I was thinking in my head...haha...ok, sorry, pointless post.

I'd have definitely preferred a coupe. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to drop the top on a nice, sunny day and cruise... but that isn't why I bought the car. I bought the car primarily for the performance aspect and for track duty, and in that sense, I'd much rather have a coupe than a convertible.
Sometimes in life you have to make compromises... but in this case, even when you lose, you still win.

The S fit my requirements; drop top, two seat, in my price range and quick(ish). However, if I was going to by a coup I would have bought something with more performance. For the money, the performance just isn't that great with this car but if you really want a convertible, it's a good choice. Said another way, if you

If the S2000 had only been available as a coupe, I would not have bought it.
If it was offered in Coupe or 'Vert I would have bought the 'vert. However, I think one of the REALLY cool things about this car is it's uniqueness. One of the things that makes it unique is that it's ONLY available in a manual tranny and that it's ONLY available in a convertable.

I hated convertibles until the S2000 came along. I just hated the way converts looked, but for some reason the S2000 did appeal to me. Maybe it's because I owned a '99 Civic Si previously and loved the high-revving nature on Honda engines. I probably still would have bought the S2000 had it only come in coupe form at the time. But now, I would want to stick with it being a convertible. I still don't like 99% of convertibles, but my S2000 I really wouldn't want any other way. I love it!

I never even really thought about it. I was in love with Honda and it was their flagship. After having a crx and a civic of high modification the S was the inevitable. I didn't even think about it until the test drive. I was too busy finding top dollar for my civic. That was a quick day. Six hours and I found a buyer. Spent a day test driving and haggling with local dealers and came home the next monday with one.
I don't care if the top is up or down. I just like to turn the wheel and push the pedals.
