Default CR suspension on ap2 REVIEWED

hardtopguy is having some family trouble now and this isn't meant to kick him while he's down.

i assume he accidentally sent me 2 driver's side front coilover assemblies and so as a result, i have 3 CR coils and passenger front stock coil installed. not great or safe, etc, i know.

to add to it, i can't reach him by phone, email etc.

not too happy, but hope his family situation improves.

onto the prelim review:

what can i really say with only 3 coils installed? a lot.

the cons: ride is very stiff and you can feel every nook in the road. it sometimes feels jittery and if you ever have driven an evo, remniscent of it. that being said, it is not harsh. feels very stock, but stiff. high quality factory impression so far. may bother passengers on long trips. the cons dont nearly offset the pros.

pros: already i can tell, the improvement is incredible. body roll was already not too bad stock, but this nearly eliminates it. car feels very stable and very planted. i can corner much faster and feel much more in control than before. the final result remains to be seen, but the CR coils simple take the s2k and make it more enjoyable in terms of being able to execute what the driver wants.

during previous autox events, i have really felt the body roll. this should help a great deal.

so far, HIGHLY recommended.

Body roll is still there (especially if you're gonna autocross) you just dont feel it oddly enough.

...and youll get used to the stiffness

recommended for the track, yes...street, I doubt it, unless you live on a mountain road and don't have a typical commute on less than perfect roads....super stiff suspension not only wears you out on a long trip, it also wears out the bushings and the car in general faster, as well as increasing squeaks and rattles

the stock car is fine for the street imo, but it could be lowered a 1/2 inch or so

...but these aren't super stiff.

And technically they are stock too

I agree, the S in stock trim could benefit from stiffer springs or anti-roll bars at least. This will be one of my first mods, once the restoration process is complete. It feels like there is more potential to outhandle my 350z, but as of right now with the work I have done on the Z, it owns the S. Can't wait to slap on some cross braces and sways onto the S!

I admit I haven't gotten in there and done any suspension work on the S yet, but on pretty much every car I've ever worked on (with a modern suspension that is) there was no difference in the front strut assemblies, as in, there is no such thing as "driver's side" and "passenger side", you just need two front units.

Is there actually something different on the S that keeps them from being interchangeable?

I'm seriously considering upgrading to the CR suspension, but 2 things are making me hesitate - the understeer bias and the ride height. I like swinging out the tail a bit at times and I'm hoping the CR setup won't make it seem like I'm not driving a RWD car.

Does the car still rotate like a turntable with enough throttle input?

I'm torn between the full CR setup vs the Bilstein PSS9s. Both have similar spring rates but the Bilsteins are a bit more rigid in back and a tad less in front (but still have much higher in front relative to back), which may make it a tad less understeery than the CR setup. Also, the Bilsteins allow a 1/2 inch drop which IMO is the perfect drop. On the other hand, the CR kit is OEM and is plug and play.
