that sounds like it could be it... but again, since i don't have the Helm manual... what is it? and is it broken? and will it break again if they just put it back in? most of all, is it necessary?

Chipster indicated that in the Helm manual, it is refered to as some kind of window stabilizer. The piece doesn't seem like it's broken. It has a couple of slots or clips that make me think it just a pressure fit. I'm not really too worried about it for now but when I get some time I'll take the doors apart again to confirm where the piece goes. If I do put it back in, I'll probably try to use some sort of adhesive to keep it in place. I'll update this thread when I do unless someone else has done it before me.
