Ouch! But at least you can say your friend actually learned something:

"I learned a good lesson this day. First of all, I am sure that I now need to go to a driving school and learn how the car reacts at super high speeds."

Yes, yes, yes!! His second lesson learned will, hopefully, but cancelled by the first but at least he got them in order.

Downhill, at speed, slight corner, applying brakes = rear end goes out. This crash was caused by poor judgement (too fast) and fear (braking). People if you find yourselves in a corner too hot, do not, ever, brake. Gently ease up on the throttle and fight through it. The weight transfer caused by removing your foot from the throttle and appying the brake will have you in the ditch.

Nakama - I'm so glad that your friend is not hurt! Thanks for posting this because it injects a sense of reality into our lives. I've spent two days at the track and heartily recommend the experience to anyone who is serious about learning the handling limits of thier car.

So good there was no serious injury. When airbags go off you know it was not a trivial impact.

I suspect there are two important lessons here. Good, fresh brake fluid is critical in the S2000. The brakes are capable of generating a great deal of heat and we all know that there is no special cooling for them.. front fade comes more easily. Several people have learned the hard way that downhill travel and rapid deceleration / braking will certainly bring oversteer quickly and recovery on a downhill curve is a *****.

I am very sorry to see the car damaged but it is great that we are talking about it rather than mourning.

I keep on hearing about accidents and near accidents involving loss of rear tire traction. The problem doesnt seem to be when the car is producing maximum HP, but at all speeds.

How is it that a car with only 150 ft-lbs of torque seems to have so many traction-related problems? Is the car simply under-tired? Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Don't you guys recognize the car and the website? Looks like it is elnetti's car.
It really sux that it happened to his awesome car.
I wonder if he is going to get another one.
The custom beige interior he did was one of the best interior job on the black S2000.
I hope he gets another one soon.

Hey, those beige leather inserts can be saved, right? How about some clear corners... Oh, yeah... JDM spec. Damn.

All I have to say re: rear-end slippage on this car (from PAINFUL experience!) is:
BEWARE of any sudden changes in weight, throttle, etc. Speed is not the issue. If the balance of the car is upset in any way, you're headed for trouble. If it's wet, you're really screwed. Even though I consider myself a good driver, and learned a lot of technique from my father, who used to race a lot back in the day, I will be doing quite a bit of driving school... when I get my damaged car back in one piece.

Happy motoring, and please, please, please BE SMOOTH AND STEADY!!

Your frame may not be bent, the window may have been popped by the airbag.

check out Greg Stevens Scarlet I. the front frame section needed replacing but thaqt was it.
