Give the kid a break, he is 17 and made a mistake. even at 50 you can spin out the car, I mean he was there and you guys were not. How do you know he didn't hit an oil patch. I know this because it happened to me, where my tires didn't grab...luckily I know how to drift and I kept it in control, but if I was 17 I surely would of spun all the way and crashed.

Best advice, tell the dad and see what he wants to do.. and go from there. The good thing is you are 17 its hard for him to do legal action against you (if it came down to that) but the bad thing is he can do legal action against your parents/legal guardians.

Well for starters... in Texas, the drivers insurance pays for the car he borrowed. I know I am going through this as we speak. My Dad who had borrowed my truck rear ended another vehicle. The ruling was... his insurance paid for my truck. My insur(primary on the truck) paid for the vehicle he hit. No deductible in either case.

By the way this is the best proof yet of why 17 y/o's will not be driving my S2000. This particular 17 y/o probably still thinks it was the cars fault.

Not enough information to know what caused it but I dare say it probably wasn't an "oil patch." Does anyone in here honestly think you have all the details?
If it WAS something in the road, he would have posted it. "Freakin' A, I hit some loose gravel, etc." We were all 17 once, we know the deal.
More importantly though, at least no one was seriously injured but come on....five mph over the speed limit? You're going to get that one over on an S2000 owner? He knows better than that.

WOW, Am i reading this post correctly???

I had my share of high speed toys and have had many friends wanting to take them for a spin. You all know the story.... Well I'll say it again and again before anyone takes my property for its use I say: "YOU BREAK IT! YOU BOUGHT IT!" as simple as that.

Sorry misternapps, but be prepared to replace the car with another undamaged one or compensation for market value before getting damaged. If I was gf's dad I wouldn't accept anything less... I also hope that you have a good relationship with gf's dad or else like Roku_F20C said he will go after your parents for resolution. Liens on any properties your parents own!

Yeah it sux but that is life...

Are you defending this idiot?

absent bad weather or something out of the ordinary (which was not posted), there is NO REASON to wipe out in a corner going 5mph under the posted limit other than: (1) lying about the speed; or (2) being a dumbass and not knowing how to drive.

What if this moron killed somebody? Maybe someone you cared about?

It's time to stop coddling idio drivers and get them off the roads so the rest of us can enjoy them.
