Default Crashed S2000 at Texas World Speedway

Hey all. I was doing some track driving this weekend, and one of the other fellas on the track is an instructor at Texas Speedway, and he told me of a accident that happened recently. Apparently the instructor was following behind a S2000, and to be brief about it, the s2000 lost control at about 95 mph at ended up going sideways off of the track....unfortunately, the roadside was muddy. When the S2k hit the mud, both tires on one side of the car got stuck, and then promptly caused the s2k to flip!! The instructor was horrified as the car (im told) flipped at least 3 times. I asked him about rollcage/bar, racing harness etc. on the poor s2k, and he said it was stock it terms of those things. Interestingly enough, even though the car struck its windshield on the ground, it held up and didnt collapse. Both drivers were a little banged up, but no major injuries. Needless to say, stories like that are terrifying, but it is reassuring that least some of the time, the windshield and stock roll hoops will hold up to such a forceful impact.

Any other drivers in Texas hear of the story (or present at the event?)

Damn, bummer. First I've heard of it. Do you know what corner it was at? We haven't had much rain in the area the past couple months, so I don't think it can be all that recent?

Myself and a few other members in Houston know the persons involved personally and are glad they got away with their lives.

Both are doing fine. The drugs are taking care of any pain they are feeling as they recover.

I hope they have a speedy recovery. Im not familiar with that track (I track at Harris Hill Road in San Marcos) so I dont know what turn it was....

Make no doubt about it, tracking is fun, but not entirely risk free (Im not telling the wife about this story....)

Yes I know who you are talking about. It's amazing they walked away the way they did!

Just make sure that your insurance covers untimed driver education events like this one. Check your policy. If not, be sure to purchase separate insurance for your car for that event or for the year. Do not assume that you are covered. Also, remember that any insurance that you are paying for as part of your event fee is to protect the event organizers -- not you and your car.

We had a s2000 driver go off sideways on a blind turn at Streets of Willow. They were going about 80 or so. It flipped 4 times and landed on the wheels and the cabin held up fine. Both driver and passenger walked away with out a nick.

The S2000 windshield frame is really strong and is a part of the chassis. Make me feel better knowing how safe our cars are.

look through this thread....I think it shows just how strong the windshield frame is on an S2000 compared to some Miatas and a Solstice.
