Cross country drive in the S
My wife and I will be taking a long trip in our 2001 NFR later this summer. I'd be interested in any advice you might have. One decision is hardtop or softtop. I'm thinking hardtop as there will be a few days we stay in one spot and can leave the hardtop in the hotel room. It's quite a bit quieter with the HT on for the long drives. Also, I'm wondering if I should leave the spare tire behind and perhaps get a repair kit instead.

In the trunk we had:
1 soft cooler - holding 12 16.9oz bottles.
2 small duffle bags
1 bag of food and some drinks
1 SLR camera bag
1 fire safe (did not want it packed and moved)
1 backpack
1 pillow
2 wind jackets
we had a little space left over
I'm a former resident of St. Louis. I will say that the Mississippi floods often, but even that seemed high. The pictures you took are incredible. You should get some images blown up and put on your walls in AL. Did you get to have the top down at all during the highway portions of the trip? or is that not even possible? I haven't taken my S on any road trips yet. Maybe next weekend....
What a great trip!!
I always feel better on long trips with the HT for a couple of reasons. Quieter is good on the long haul, and I always sleep better at night along the way knowing the soft top won't get slashed.
