I used to ride with some guys who would love to keep there bikes in 3rd gear at highway speeds to hear the screatch of a D&D pipe at 10k rpm's.

I just dont see the point.

Anything below redline is fine and won't damage your engine. That's why there's a redline.

This is the wrong mentality for an S2000 owner. The car is not crying, its screaming, and that's a good thing!

Can you imagine seeing a car creep by at 35 mph in first stirring the bees, lol. I bet people on the street are like "damn, that thing is about to blow up"

VTEC won't even engage if you are just "cruising". It is based upon throttle position and other variables as opposed to strictly RPM.

Go in your car and SLOWLY take it into VTEC range, you'll notice it doesn't engage.
Well, let's say I accelerated hard to like 7k rpm and I felt the VTEC kicking in.
If I stay at that rpm would it switch back to normal cam, or would it stay in VTEC?

Anywho, I should've made myself clear. I was trying to ask cruising at around 6-7k rpm.

I see different opinions, some say it'll shorten the life of the engine, and some say it's fine.
I definitely see no advantage of it other than the sweet sound, so I guess I'll have take it easy on her.

The engine "will be fine" since almost all Honda engines, S2K included, are fairly durable. But it will definitely shorten engine life... How much more it will shorten it? Who knows.....because not many people drive around cruising at the upper RPM range...

Anyways, since yours is an '07 and you probably don't have many miles on it, I would think that its not too good for the engine, but thats just my opinion.

I like the engine sound when its revving up through the rpm range but I can't imagine having it drone around 6-7K rpm's all day, it would drive me nuts. Pretty much pointless too and just wastes gas.

Sorry to go off topic.

Are you sure about that? My car seems to switch cams near 6k. Maybe I am wrong but the second cam kicks in because the lobes are different. They allow the engine to operate at a higher RPM therefore the exhaust and intakes valves need to open at a different rate. Am I right or wrong?
Second cam? Both cam are always working. When you hit VTEC, the intake values stay open longer. Not the second cam.
