Default Cupping Tires Anyone?

I posted over at the wheel + tire forum no replies.

The Story:

The previous owner threw off the alignment and for a couple thousand miles of driving made the tires cup on the outsides in the front, rears are fine. I had the alignment done but it still pulls to the right even when the steering is straight. According to the tire shop, only way to fix this pull is getting new tires. Car only has 7200 miles with stock S02s. Anyone know if I can keep driving on these tires without any problems down the road? TIA

My alignment settings are as follows:

-------------------------Front------------------------------

(-0.5)------------------(0.0)------------------------(-0.5)
Camber

(5.9)-------------------(-0.2)------------------------(6.0)
Caster Adjustment

(-1/32'')----------------------------------------------(0'')
Toe

*Rears weren't adjusted so I assume them were in perfect alignment.

when you say "pull".....

1) Does the car track straight when you let go of the wheel? Or does it pull right? 2) Or is it more like when the you centre the steering wheel, the car begins to go right.

If its #2, perhaps the alignment guy didn't perfect set the steering wheel - happens all the time. Just go back in, adjust, test drive, adjust, test drive etc... till he gets it right.

It's #2 when the wheel is centered, the car startings to gradually pull right. I went back after the alignment and they pulled the wheels to show me the tires. The fronts are cupping on the outside edges which the tire shop said is causing it to pull to the right. Only way to fix it he said is get new front tires. Rear tires are normal wear.

If the tires are worn on the outsides but the same on both tires, they would have offsetting impact on tendency to pull one direction or the other.

Even if they did not adjust the rear end, there would still be data from the machine. Sounds like they did not do a 4-wheel, just a front wheel. It would be very easy to have one rear wheel slightly out of line (S2ks are 4 wheel adjustable) and have that cause the problem. They may have been trying to be cheap and not adjust the rears. Worn tires will have some impact on direction, but normally if they are worn unevenly.
