Default Current dealer costs of the S2000?

Hey all,

Two main questions I'm hoping for answers to. First: What is the current invoice on the S2000 - is it what I see at Edmunds ($29,600)? Second: Is there any dealer holdback on these cars right now?

I ask because I'm getting ready to do battle with the dealerships over a new 05 S2000. I've got three dealerships all in the 30k range, one with a "free tires for life" deal that I am still trying to get specifics on. The lowest price I have so far is $30,200 (plus tax(919), title&tag(56) and dealer processing fee (299) - no 515 dest charge), and its my understanding that invoice is 29,600.

I also have two 03 S2000s that are in the 25k range, but I'm thinking that for the price, I might as well get a brand new S2k. Any thoughts?

Or, have you ever thought about which variant you want? As in would you prefer the 2.0L engine or 2.2L engine? That could also be a deciding factor.

"free tires for life"!!!???

Take that and run! You'll need tires every year or so, and they are over $220/each at most places; plus mounting and balancing. The least expensive tires that I could find that matched the original equipment on my '04 (Bridgestone RE050) were $191/each, again, plus mounting and balancing. This is like $800/year in savings!

I wish my dealer caved in on that when I asked!

I'd watch that "free tires for life" crap. No way are they forking out that much money. I'd ask for specifics on that, in writing, before I agreed to buy the car, e.g. Are the tires replaced when worn to a certain point, or after a specific mileage or time period? When they're replaced, what brand do you get?
You can be damn sure you're not getting tires every time YOU think you need them.

that sounds fishy. imagine how much $$$ they stand to lose, esp. if the person tracks their S.

Yes, I'm still trying to get specifics on the tire thing. The thing is, I am getting the same price from multiple dealerships - its just this one (large) dealership that offers tires for life too. On my friend's Accord, they are Michelins when his tires hit 2/32 tread, the caveat being he has to service the car at the dealership to qualify, so I imagine the service is more expensive than most.

I asked a Nissan salesperson who's dealership is owned by the same dealership network and who was also offering free tires on a 350Z, and he told me that 350's were ineligible due to their asymmetrical tires. I'm waiting for details on the S2000, but the price on the car is still good.

I'm looking at white, and have multiple cars to choose from from my03 and my05. I think I want the larger displacement, and since used are selling for 25k when I can get new for 30k, I'm thinking new.

becareful with the free tires for life crap. my mother-in-law bought a new explorer that supposed came with tires for life as long as she did maintenance work at the dealership. well she faithfully paid for the $40 oil changes and other miscellaneous things on the log book. one night she got a flat tire and when she went into the stealership they told her the free tires for life did not apply to flats, she would have to buy a brand new tire. they also told her, if she did not buy their "factory authorised" tire (at a ridiculous markup) then the whole tire for life program is null and void.

needless to say ford has never seen the explorer for routine maintenance since.

Don't forget that the destination charge of $480 (or whatever the exact $ is) is NOT considered part of the invoice price

Get the color you want and you'll be happy!!!!
