Custom intake based off K&n FIPK
Well I was just wondering if anyone knows how I can go about this idea to save a couple of bucks.
My friend has a fipk K&n intake which I belive works good and gives good gains from what he has told me and from dyno results he had and others have had here.
My idea since the fipk is basically a short ram intake with a box, how would i go about duplicating the box.
If I were to get fiberglass and try to make a replica of the box, how can i go about doing that. Im sure it can be done and it would just require me to have a short ram in take which I have a spare one from my earlier days testing the car.
I would assume I would turn the box down, apply it with some material so the fiberglass wont stick to it, and then just put the a couple coats of fiberglass over it and your done. All then I would need is to paint it black and get some rubber gaskets to have the hood close the gaps..
How does this idea sound. Can this be done. Thanks

fiberglass is to heavy
K & N uses a semi enclosed heat shield/box. I bet if you are looking to save a little money you can make something up out of some light metal or a sheet of ABS plastic that you can buy at Home Depot.
If you keep your eye out on the for sale threads you maybe able to pick up a nice used K & N intake for under $200

Imo to do something similar, just keep the OEM setup, but replace the thick plastic airbox with a thin metal one that doesn't muffle the sound as much. The stock airbox is sealed better than the K&N, and all the K&N really does is move the filter closer to the air inlet.
