Default Cutting Stock Exhaust

I am thinking about getting a new exhaust but keeping the stock around just in case. I know it's one big honking piece, but would there be a problem cutting it right after the Y, either one cannister or both? I have limited storage space and that would help a lot. I assume a muffler shop should be able to weld it back together if I want to return to stock right?

Definately keep it in case you wanna go back to stock, but PLEASE, don't cut it. Find a place to store it, but you'll ruin it by cutting.

Well, that would be fine except I currently live in a 1 bedroom apartment. Sooo, either I have to keep the stock exhaust on till I get my new place or cut up the stock one so it fits in my storage area.

Could you explain why I would be ruining it though? People cut out the resonator all the time. It's the same thing, just need to have them weld it back together.

It should be ok to cut the pipe, then have it rewelded later. Just leave yourself room to work with on the pipe. Don't cut too close to the Y split, leave at least a few inches.
