I am not in Cali but daily drive in traffic on weekdays with one. It doesn't smell that bad and the power gain and fierce sound is more than worth it.

I know driving w/out a cat is like night and day compare to driving with one. I use to have a 92 Civic hb with H22a motor without a cat, its was a beast just with headers and cam gears.

I know in southern California if you get caught with no cat your in for a $3k ticket, maybe reduce if you kiss the judges butt. Smog city don't tolerate this like other cities. I guess my best bet is high flow cat.
Changing the cat is illegal except if the shop doccuments your old cat going bad. You can only replace with a factory cat. No high flow or 100 cell cats in California.

I was under the impression the fines were severe [1k<] as well, but after a lawyer on another forum looked into it, the realistic worst case scenario is 400-500$ in most states. The way I look at it, if I hire a lawyer, it will get taken care of for a couple hundred bucks to the court most likely. If you are willing to lie and did not buy the car new, you can get out of 95% of fines by saying it was not installed by you. They cannot fine the PO if he does not own the car. Similar to just saying it wasn't you in the red light ticket, if you lie and there is any doubt, you almost always win. You can also claim you are on the way to the track and get out of a lot of fines [that via the lawyer].

Most the people I know with modified cars drive around with the TP daily, no issues or anyone I've ever even heard of has been caught.

I doubt any aftermarket "High Flow" cat would be worth your money. The S2000 stock cat is considered "High Flow" if I'm not mistaken. Also your emissions is covered under a seperate warranty by Honda for as long as 8 years in some states. Finally have you checked the price of an OEM cat? I seem to remember it being substantial. I would stay OEM or go test pipe.

cat deletes aren't worth it for places with strong laws against that stuff.... not worth the small power increase.
