Default Damages of Towing an S2000

Hello, my car was towed yesterday while parking in a vistor lot of a hospital. THe sign said visitor parking from 9-4, and i got towed at 1130. Needless to say i was reallly pissed off. More to my enjoyment, the guy didnt use a flatbed. He said he picked the car up from the rear and never had to get in or anything, but im not sure he could have from where i was parked. Either way, i wanted to know the damage that could be done from this. I am going to a honda dealership today to have them check things out and didnt know what could be damaged from a crappy tow job. I know the front end hit the ground a few times and there is a small crack on the buttom of my fiberglass rear bumper. I am goign to bill them for all of this and complain like hell to the supervisor over the receptionist that decided it would be funny to tow my car. Is there anything else i should look for?

Thanks in advance, Derek

The towing company will know who called them for the tow. thats what the poliice refer to as a private lot. Unless it was in a handicap zone or fire lane, it probably wasn't the police.

yeah i'd bitch like hell to the receptionist. and take the car to the tow place to show them the damage and make them pay for the damages. also it says in the owners manual to only flatbed the car, not to use a hook truck, so be sure to show them that. i'd probably also write a letter to the hospital's general manager or wherever you were at.

totally unacceptable - unfortunatlely, most tow truck companies don't have access to our owners manual - so they don't know about the flatbed thing. The only thing you can do is get the repairs paid for.

Would you mind updating when you get some justice (hopefully..). I hate hearing about this sort of thing, and I'd like to hear a happy ending to it.

Derek, you have the worst luck of anyone I know with a S2000. Seconded by Steve - glad I don't live in Norfolk.

Sorry to hear this man.

Good luck. I've never heard of anyone getting any money out of a towing company.

Hmmmm... Derek - please don't take all of this personal, you just happen to be the note I'm reading now, and I get frustrated when I see responses to posts like yours. The anger and blame that is prevalent in today's America is horrible to see. I'll try to throw some common sense into the picture, and hopefully it helps you get through it.

I'd make very sure that you did see all of the signs, and didn't miss any in the parking lot. Make sure that in fact you were in a visitor spot, and that you met the requirements for being there. Did you arrive in the lot at 8:30?, and the tow truck actually arrived at 11:30? You didn't present all of the facts that could be used to truly evaluate the situation.

Unless you know for a fact that the receptionist who 'decided it would be funny to tow your car' actually made the call, and the details about that call, you may alienate the best person there to get you information.

It appears that you had some conversation with the towing company - I'm assuming to get the car back. Work with them to get copies of any records they have from the call, the tow, etc... Yelling and screaming at them probably won't do much good at this point either.

Raising hell just makes the person on the other end defensive, and most likely uncooperative to getting any resolution done. As above, working with someone there to go over the facts and get real answers and accountability is your goal here (and the restitution that could come with it). Your goal is not to see how angry you can get the supervisor, or how quickly you can get a receptionist fired.

If in fact the tow shouldn't have happened, it was illegal, etc.. and the hospital initiated it, then the hospital should take accountability for any damages caused, or cost to verify that there is no damage.

If the tow was legal, you will probably have to deal with the tow company, and, unfortunately, I'd think you are going to be stuck with any bill, other than very severe obvious damage from the tow items (they pulled a bumper off, the axel is bent, etc... depending on what they did. You'll have an extremely difficult time getting them to take ownership of of scratches on the front bumper that (I would speculate) a reasonably large percentage of S2Ks have from curbs, driveway ramps, road debris, etc... that could be caused by driving of the car.

Hopefully, you'll get the results you are looking for. Hopefully your car is fine. Hopefully, you've calmed down by now. Most importantly - Hopefully, whatever it was that caused you, or someone you know to be in the hospital works out for the better.

Apologies for the rant

Gary
